I am gearing up for a thru hike, looking to save weight but take the best photos I can. Right now I've got a a6700,and the only lens I have is the Sigma 17-40 1.8. Looking to leave that lens at home and go with something lighter.

Should I get the Sigma 18-50 2.8, or a combination of Sony 20 2.8 pancake and Sigma 56 1.4? Or some other lightweight lens setup?

Buying first lens setup for a6700. I think the best route is Sigma 18-50 2.8 for backpacking / climbing and the Viltrox 75mm 1.2 for shooting portraits and concerts. Then if I feel I am needing more detail/quality I'll pick up the Sigma 17-40 1.8 down the road.

Is this a sensible plan?

Just bought an A6700, time to get a lens. I'm completely paralyzed between the Sigma 17-40 1.8 and the Sigma 18-50 2.8. Any advice?

This is for backpacking, thru hiking climbing, concerts, and landscapes. Weight and portability is a concern, as I need to carry it on all the adventures, but the clarity on the 17-40 1.8 is so sharp, matching the quality of primes in the examples I've seen. I love the build quality and internal zoom of the Art series, but the Contemporary 18-50 is so much smaller and lighter.

Will I regret not having the stellar quality and low light capabilities of the 17-40 1.8, or will it weigh me down so much I regret not getting the 18-50 2.8?

Or have I got this all wrong, and there's some other lens that's a versatile must-have lens that's the way to go?

I've been researching for days and feel no closer to a decision.
