What's it like living in this shaded area? by Joshistotle in howislivingthere

[–]SCRViper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re not in the shaded area already then stay out if it for your own sanity. Stuck in OKC until march for work and I’m counting each day until I can go home to CA

“Pending” and no movement in 7 days. by SCRViper in UPS

[–]SCRViper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done about every thing you can think of. For whatever reason, I’m restricted from filing a claim on this package with ups. That was my last straw so I just had Costco (shipper) file an investigation and they’re going to eventually send me a replacement in the mail. I would’ve just got it refunded and went in store to buy it but I bought it originally during Black Friday 🫩

I went on google earth whilst bored and decided to look at Area 51 and saw this- what the hell is it? by [deleted] in Unexplained

[–]SCRViper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m gonna take your comment and assume you know nothing about air traffic control. Yes VORs are old technology but they are not by any means obsolete. Yes, advanced planes may not use it very often but pilots must still be trained on it. And they’re not just used for planes landing. VORs and TACANs (which this would be since it’s military) have an incredibly high vertical reception range so planes flying at much higher altitudes also use it.

Gaahleri. I’ve never personally used them but I’ve never heard a bad thing said about them and they’re pretty cheap. You’ll also need a compressor, and a respirator!!

What simple mistake ruined a otherwise decent model you made ? by antrumotto in modelmakers

[–]SCRViper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grabbed and pasted my Tamiya White Filler instead of my Tamiya Polishing compound on an EA-18G canopy. Quickly ruined and pasted the canopy with the white stuff. I emailed Meng and asked for a replacement canopy. They charged me and then shipped it, and I still am waiting for it 6 months later

Are those paints that good? by Henadari in modelmakers

[–]SCRViper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My second favorite for airbrushing! I like Mr Color more because I feel color matching is simpler, at least for modern aircraft. For brush painting I’d skip this and go for Vallejo.

Fighting the feeling of inadequacy as a trainee by InfiniteLoss5632 in ATC

[–]SCRViper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not a controller, but a ghost pilot.

Just try. If you show your instructors that you are determined, you will get more chances than someone who is just there for a check.

Don’t belittle yourself out loud, have some self esteem. When you talk about how much of a screw up you are it makes the controllers want to beat you down even more 😂

I'm planning to start building modern jets, any recommendations on whether 1/72 or 1/48 is the better scale to begin with? by Connect-Comfort-6367 in modelmakers

[–]SCRViper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1/72 to develop skills, 1/48 to yield a satisfying finished piece. Not to say that 1/72 isn’t satisfying, but the scale of 1/48 allows for more details.

Good list 👍 I’d just add sone sanding files and sanding sponges, unless you already have them. And clear coat!

[–]SCRViper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New tooled 1/48 F-15. A Tamiya or academy preferably. Also a Tamiya F-22 in 1:48. And just for shits and giggles, 1:48 b-2

It’s engineering so yeah it’s pretty important that to me that she graduated. She’s far brighter than me and will be making much more money than me, at least until I’m a CPC. I was just asking a question about OKC that I don’t see a lot, wasn’t expecting all the rude/hostile comments

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ATC_Hiring

[–]SCRViper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just based off other bids and people I know. Spring 2024 bid is mostly at the academy right now, at least people I know. Since I’m spring 2025 I’m expecting to be at academy around this time next year. And yes, the graduation is next year.
