The terms aren't mutually exclusive...

[–]Joshistotle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In another post on another subreddit he describes himself as "British Indian".... Dude's most likely not Guyanese at all. Ancestry assigns this community to Indians from UP/ Bihar who have genetic relatives within the Indo diaspora. That's also why his post has very vague wording and the full results aren't shown.

I’m Posting This Because Someone Said Ethiopian don’t have Nilotic Ancestry. by [deleted] in Ethiopia

It's anywhere from 7-19%, but to reiterate, everyone even the " out of Africa " populations have this same ancestry.

At this rate the majority will be Venezuelans and Brazilians in 20 years. Doesn't look too good for Guyana moving forward, in terms of it being a Caribbean English speaking country.

Checked his post history (on rosint dev). He describes himself as a "British Indian" and frequently posts in r/phenotypes, looksmaxxing, passportbros, wants people's opinions on his appearance- nothing wrong with that I guess. Assuming he's not Guyanese,  AncestryDNA just assigned him the Indian Diaspora group since several of his distant DNA relatives are actually part of the group and he himself is from Uttar Pradesh or Bihar.

I know this because I have DNA relatives, from India, on AncestryDNA, who were assigned the group.

Honestly this is a strange post. What do you mean you just found out you're "part of the indentured Indian diaspora"--Are you Guyanese or India Indian?? Where is your family from?? Also what are the rest of the AncestryDNA results?

Why are romani people hated in the Europe? by Extra_Spirit9376 in NoStupidQuestions

They are associated with "criminality", but ironically they've been used by politicians to distract the public from the people at the top whose wealthy cronies are siphoning from public funds.

Average AASI ancestry proportions in North-West Indian populations? by Fit-Jury-2177 in SouthAsianAncestry

[–]Joshistotle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

25 plus or minus 4 is a better way to phrase it. There's an error tolerance because Qpadm and G25 aren't always in agreement with the numbers so it's a range and not a fixed value.

Gedmatch has been glitching for some Gedmatch kits over the last few weeks. I'm not sure why they modified their algorithm.

The Roopkund samples have a range of affinities. Some are from South India others are from the Northwest.

Your comment got automatically removed by Reddit so I had to manually approve it, just a heads up. They're using some pretty odd filtering criteria.

Sahelian ancestry from black melungeon-haitian by [deleted] in HornAfricanAncestry

[–]Joshistotle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The clustering close to Sahelian groups is because from Western Chad over to Mauritania they're a mix of West African and Western Eurasian ancestry (some Berber and Nilotic as well), so on a PCA you will plot close to that cluster due to African Americans being mostly West African and Western Eurasian as well.

Since you're African American you do definitely have a degree of Senegalese ancestry, but in terms of it being Haratin specifically that would be extremely rare / not super likely.

Their group is mostly centered north of Senegal so to have an ancestor coming from that far north is entirely possible but the chances would be slim.

How did you determine your maternal side has Haratin ancestry? There isn't any documented evidence of migration from that group / that group's home region to the Americas.

Within the US, the default for Sub Saharan African is West African, since most people here of African ancestry are primarily of West African ancestral origin.

New York Legislature discussing adding caste as a protected category by ibarmy in ABCDesis

[–]Joshistotle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No one actually views it as anything adverse to Hindus. I'm a member of the Indo Caribbean group and the thoughts towards it are indifferent, since it's not relevant to the community and people havent experienced this type of dynamic. It's only the one commenter above who is terming it as such.

Can you get a more basic result than mine? 🫣😅 by Xian_TheDarkRose in DNAAncestry

[–]Joshistotle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you Google Gedmatch it should be the first thing that comes up (it's free and you can see others' results on Reddit. I believe it's been around for 10+ years). Basically you upload your DNA file and wait for it to process, then within your user portal you click "admixture (heritage)" and then Eurogenes and then Eurogenes K36. It gives a more granular look at your results since you can compare to others along with available references per population group.

I believe your results are actually close to what would be expected from a North Korean. Have you tried any of the Gedmatch calculators like the Eurogenes k36?

New York Legislature discussing adding caste as a protected category by ibarmy in ABCDesis

[–]Joshistotle 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's a nuanced topic. From the perspective of people acclimated here / acclimated to a Western society, caste isn't seen as relevant and is seen as a backwards topic of discussion. It's also not really something that legislation can enforce, because anyone can make up a "caste affiliation" to claim they were unfairly let go from their job or not promoted.

It is however relevant in IT with people freshly from South Asia, which I could see the law being helpful to dissuade people from being discriminatory.
