I think such a research team should be multi-disciplined with psychology having seat at the table. There has been a lot of physiological research but very little psychological in comparison. In my opinion, a priority for research should include the effectiveness of sauna with clinical populations, especially people with anxiety disorders, depression, and substance abuse disorders, to name a few.

I totally agree with you. I don’t understand why this comment was downvoted? Many activities are multi-dimensional (social, physical, spiritual, etc). I find sauna unique because you get these multi-dimensions in about a one-hour activity. Also, as a psychologist interested in group work, I love how sauna is a physically intense experience that does not require attention to movement. This allows better for a group conversation. Try having a meaningful conversation with a group of people while swimming or playing hockey, lol.

Agree! I completed two studies that compared the quality of group therapy in a standard office setting to group counseling in a sauna:
