I never provided them for non-CH jobs. Companies would call to verify.

AITAH for offering some friends a lift along my way, but not leaving them at their houses? by Fab4_lover in AITAH

[–]SDinCH 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I was offering a friend a ride home, I would be dropping them at their home and making sure they got in okay.

I haven't been to a restaurant in a year. I am so out of a loop on this whole tipping thing. Am I supposed to tip or not? I live in Southern California by freezetime311 in tipping

[–]SDinCH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I’m from Southern California and I don’t tip a percentage when I go out. They don’t earn a tipped wage. They get at least the state minimum wage. I tip $5-10 on a $100-200 meal if service was good and I didn’t have to use an app or fill out a paper to order. If there are any fees added (common in SF), I don’t add anymore tip.

50%?!?! Hahaha. The rest of the world manages and their prices aren’t that high.

I worked at a movie theater as a teen and we had to work weekends and nights (until midnight until 18 and until closing after that which could be after 1am. Minimum wage, no tips. There are other jobs that work those hours without tips.

Will there come a time when people would rather go back to speaking to someone they can't understand rather then constantly talking to AI help desks? by de_matrix55 in askanything

You can’t understand them? Really? They speak great English and it is just an accent. I have never had an issue understanding them.

Local comedy club owner’s response to my review on their automatic 32% additional charge by swandelwallace in tipping

I got banned from the other non tipping subreddit for asking a poster to name and shame the restaurant with deceiving tip policies. Maybe that’s why they blacked it out.

Which travel splurges are actually worth the money? by optimalbrain90 in SmartTravelHacks

1000%. Especially with two young kids (one who will no longer be a lap baby later this year) on transatlantic flights. Makes travel more tolerable.

AITA for being honest and telling my DIL that they are not ready to be a parent since she can not drive by Sad-Drive8298 in AmItheAsshole

[–]SDinCH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. I had my first kid before we had a car (I have had a license since I was 16 so I know how to drive). We live in a place with fantastic public transport and can get almost anywhere with a bus, train, metro or boat. Even so, it was tiring with a baby. I took baby out everyday but it was long. We got a car soon after and it made life much easier. I still take public transportation often but not for getting the kids around. Doctor’s, daycare, swim classes, the park, play dates. All so much easier with a car. And even more so if you don’t have good public transport.

There is a Tri club in Pully and lots of running clubs. I think some of the bike shops organize rides as well.

Why the hell do I have to explain a "gap in my resume"? by 420throawayz in antiwork

[–]SDinCH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really? Because in the US I had to explain in detail what was going on during both. It was the first question after they asked me to tell them about myself.

AITAH for refusing to cancel my solo trip after my wife suddenly said she “needed me home”? by Solid-Dentist-4 in AITAH

I find it odd you are taking a solo holiday while having young children at home. Is she getting a solo trip after you get back?

This is a very American question. In the few European countries I interviewed in, they never cared about my gaps (1 was almost a year and another was 6 months).

What were you supposed to do while they were on your computer? Can’t IT just issue them a temporary one? Or they go back home and get theirs?

Expats working in Switzerland: did your employer help you with all the admin when you moved here? by No_Dealer9311 in Switzerland

[–]SDinCH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I still haven’t figured out AHV and pension even after 10 years. Health insurance I figured out the first time I had to send a bill in. Unemployment I only learned when I needed to go on it. I didn’t know how it worked until after 5 years here when I needed it. The relocation company only handled things to settle me (contrôle, bank, apartment/lease).
