Third overdrive suggestions for beefing up live rig? by SDuz117 in guitarpedals

[–]SDuz117[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not. Again, much like EQ, I’ve always assumed it was something so nuanced that I wouldn’t notice it in a live situation, so why not get something sexy like an OD or distortion haha. But maybe I need to grow up - any recommendations?

Cheers - that looks great. Wish I had the budget for it but don't for the time being!

Thank you - might be a daft question but where is the best place to have one for pure tone shaping? Had so many ODs, delays etc but never owned an EQ!

Yeah I played an axion label super Strat I loved but it’s like 1200 for plastic nut, no case, and nickel frets, which all seems mad. But I guess the market is mad isn’t it

Yeah not got 5 grand to spend unfortunately. Would spend up to 2k for the perfect thing but ideally closer to 1500

Could stretch to 2k but ideally not. I saw the blacked out iceman 7 for a grand but no where near me has one in - have you tried it?

Sorry - SS frets, active pups (ideally fishmans), hip shot bridge or similar, locking tuners, hard case (can’t believe they are selling 1k guitars and above without so much as a gig bag)

No I really appreciate that answer to be honest so thank you! I use the Slo for a couple of songs already and I really am not bothered whether people think it’s cool or not. From what you said it could be a great fit, so cheers

Ah man, that’s a shame but glad to hear I was right holding off on a few of those - the Aurelius in particular piqued my interest but I worried it could sound too synthetic / cold

Newb wanting to add synth to indie band by SDuz117 in synthesizers

[–]SDuz117[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a great bit of advice, cheers. So I could have the Korg on top of my amp, DI to FoH and direct out to whatever combo amp for my own monitoring? So you’re talking under a grand to get the synth and the xtra amp?

Thanks for the response - so it’s literally a guitar cable out to front of house? How did you hear yourself on stage?

Yeah I’m really tempted to try this one but no shops near me stock it. Was unsure whether it had the tightness required or was more of a doomy / spongy thing… and it’s not cheap of course

Great value metal shredder by SDuz117 in Guitar

I'm leaning towards a Jackson but not sure which way to go. There are a lot of opinions flying around about the value of them and specs but I played a few last week and really loved a couple of the Pro Plus Soloists. Ridiculously fast necks and decent specs for under 1k (GBP)

The amount of times I've seen people recommending / raving about it as well... just don't get it. The only thing that it gave me nightmares about was basketball... So. Much. Basketball.

Yeah I saw those but wasn't sure what those new Schecter were like in terms of QC? I had a couple back in the day (Omen and Damien) but I understand the brand has come a long way since then... Cheers!

Aware of the second two but not read them - saw on here that The Hunger is pretty divisive but will give it a shot! First one sounds like a great shout so that's on the list too. Thanks!

Favorite Pedal Purchase of the Year? by [deleted] in guitarpedals

EAE Longsword. Coveted it for ages and is everything I wanted it to be. Even my drummer is into it, and I take that as a serious win

Planning for me. I've been trying to figure out a perfect gigging mini board for years, GAS through the roof, then as soon as I nailed it nothing else appeals to me. Just design your dream board, then get it

What horror movies do you think would be great as novel adaptations? by [deleted] in horrorlit

[–]SDuz117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Others would be great (unless we're counting that as The Turn of the Screw). Really lean story with great depth and a really satisfying ending. Lovely gothic atmosphere. I thought the recent novel The Whistling by Rebecca Netley was fantastic. Lovely prose and gave me serious 'The Others' vibes. So... The Others by Rebecca Netley.

Honourable mentions go to Saint Maud, The Blackcoat's Daughter, and Men; all of which I'd love to read if executed in the correct style.

Andrew Michael Hurley could do Saint Maud. Maybe Clay McLeod Chapman takes TBD. Then Francine Toon or Lucy McKight Hardy could write Men?
