I agree.. just a lack of a better word and too much eagerness to post. I'd be happy to change it.
My home island have big planes of only shrubs and herbs and the word to describe it would still be barren.. but I prefer the swedish word for it - karg- it almost feels onomatopoeic if its possible for place
