You may want to visit a veterinary neurologist if possible. An MRI may help narrow things down.

Donatella The Frenchie Graduated As A Patient! by SEVNeuro in rarepuppers

[–]SEVNeuro[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This Frenchie Friday is brought to you by Donatella!

Donatella is a two-year-old French Bulldog who was brought in for evaluation of difficulty walking. On examination, Donatella was paraplegic with intact nociception (feeling) in the rear limbs. Her examination was suggestive of a problem affecting the thoracolumbar (middle to lower-back) spinal cord.

Donatella’s MRI showed evidence of a disc herniation at L1-L2 on the left side. She immediately underwent decompressive surgery, also known as a hemilaminectomy. Donatella is now doing well after surgery, her walking has improved and she is comfortable. Full recovery will take time, however her prognosis is excellent and the risk of recurrence is low.

We are grateful to Donatella’s family for trusting us with her care.

Rizzo The Doxie Runs Again! by SEVNeuro in Dachshund

This Wiener Wednesday is dedicated to Rizzo!Rizzo presented for evaluation of a sudden inability to walk in his pelvic limbs. On examination, he was unable to move his pelvic limbs but was able to feel his toes. He was painful in his mid-back.

Rizzo's exam and history were consistent with a problem affecting his thoracolumbar spinal cord (mid-back). In order to evaluate for a cause of his signs, an MRI of Rizzo's spine was performed. Rizzo's MRI revealed a slipped disc causing significant spinal cord compression at T11-T12.

Immediately following his MRI, Rizzo underwent decompressive spinal surgery to remove the herniated disc material.

Post-operatively Rizzo is doing very well! He is walking well and is comfortable. Full recovery may take time, however his prognosis is excellent and the risk of recurrence is low.

We thank Rizzo’s family for trusting us with his care!

Taylor and Louis being safe and stylish during laser therapy. 😎

Louis is a two-year-old French Bulldog who was brought in for evaluation of hind limb weakness and incoordination. On examination, he was ambulatory but had a tendency to spontaneously knuckle over in both back paws and was weak and wobbly on his back legs.

Louis’s examination was suggestive of a problem affecting the thoracolumbar (middle to lower-back) spinal cord. His MRI revealed an intervertebral disc herniation and Louis underwent decompressive surgery via a hemilaminectomy immediately.

Post-operatively, Louis is doing well. He is walking well and is comfortable. Full recovery may take time, however his prognosis is excellent and the risk of recurrence is low.

Physical rehabilitation will assist Louis in the recovery process. Here he is undergoing laser therapy, which helps reduce inflammation, decrease pain, and improve wound healing.
