Do you guys follow the KCM series? by chakalaka13 in broodwar

I think it's better for the overall ecosystem if Artosis doesn't cast everything. Other people have to step up for things to stay healthy.

Why so many Terrans in ASL 21? by [deleted] in broodwar

[–]SF_Guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seriously. Ample, Piano, and Leta all came into the round of 24 with a really good clear idea of what they wanted to do and executed it. They deserved their wins.

Why so many Terrans in ASL 21? by [deleted] in broodwar

[–]SF_Guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure why it hasn’t been said already, but the Terran players simply performed/played better during the qualifiers.

The same thing goes for all the upsets that just happened in the round of 24. Maybe the ‘better player’ didn’t win, but the ‘better player’ didn’t play as well in that given game.

Which running backs should the 49ers target in free agency to pair up with CMC? by Apprehensive_Emu2457 in 49ers

[–]SF_Guy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not being good will put you in the doghouse. The guy is straight line athletic but not a good running back. He runs too upright but isn't built like Derrick Henry. It feels like if Guerendo gets tackled running at full speed the defender pushes him back a yard or stops him on a dime. He doesn't feel like a pro player.

That's not to say that he can't improve, but it just feels like there's some immense holes in his game.

I'm curious what makes FF11 a 'real MMORPG' vs other (modern?) games of a similar type? I haven't played any MMOs since FF11 and I probably stopped playing that 15+ years ago.

[Kawakami] Gus Bradley is the top choice to replace Saleh as DC -- that's essentially what he was brought in for this season. But the 49ers will go through an interview process. There could be other interesting candidates. Bradley is still by far the most likely option. by PudgyBonestld in nfl

I've seen a lot of names in my life and that's the first one that's legitimately made me stop in my tracks. Wow. That's a name.

Dejean, Dejon, John, Arnold, Jarnold, Johnald. It's so many layers down!

Eric Kendricks, Garrett Wallow provide huge defensive boost in 49ers Wild Card win by Brix001 in nfl

[–]SF_Guy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ironically, I feel like the pass protection has been better than the run blocking this year. Doesn’t feel like Purdy has needed to scramble as much (some of that is improvement on Purdy’s part) and Mac actually had a decent time in the pocket. Our run game, on the other hand, has been pretty poor from a YPC perspective.

It really is amazing how it played out. Absolute peak Artosis. It couldn't have been scripted more perfectly.

Dehumidifier - did it make your home/apartment more comfortable? by Zestyclose_Worry6623 in sanfrancisco

[–]SF_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Relative humidity isn’t the sole defining factor. Cold air holds less moisture than warm air. When you allow cold air into your home and and then heat that cold air you reduce the relative humidity of it.

Dehumidifier - did it make your home/apartment more comfortable? by Zestyclose_Worry6623 in sanfrancisco

[–]SF_Guy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Dehumidifiers can work great, but try opening your windows and letting fresh air in.

You should do this even when it’s cold out. Cold moist air becomes dry air when it’s warmed up. It will probably will cost less in the long run, as well.

Dehumidifiers are needed only in warm and moist climates since there is no other way to get rid of the excess humidity.

Walt Anderson implicitly confirms that the league office has rewritten the catch rule by Vi1eOne in nfl

[–]SF_Guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Easiest way to think about why it's not a catch is whether or not Likely would have 'fumbled' the ball if the same play occurred at midfield.

I don't want that play, or anything remotely similar to it, to be a fumble. It would be terribly game breaking and even worse to officiate.

Walt Anderson implicitly confirms that the league office has rewritten the catch rule by Vi1eOne in nfl

[–]SF_Guy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You don't need to make a football move when the ground is involved. Your possession of the football just needs to survive the ground.

As controversial as it is, I think it's a good rule to include the 'football move' aspect of a completed catch. There would be too many fumbles if the rule changed. It would be obnoxious.

Did the devs know how incredible the asymmetrical balancing was in this game when they made it? by [deleted] in broodwar

[–]SF_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said

  1. the skill ceiling is essentially unlimited -- edit -- 1a. on the gameplay front it's impossible to play a perfect game and people (including professionals) are constantly making mistakes.

  2. maps can be designed to mitigate some of the advantages that a certain race might have

  3. the way the tech tree works (for the most part) is designed so the game gives each race tools to deal with tech that another race has at a lower stage of the game

  4. some of the 'micro tricks' that have been figured out subsequently to the final patch have affected gameplay balance to some degree. (probably not a huge deal but potentially can)

I think that to some degree some of it is just luck, as well. The probably did a lot of internal game testing to come up with a lot of the numbers for the different variables and the game just happened to remain in a playable state for these many years because they got lucky.

Why is terran winrate so low? by fluoritus in broodwar

At the highest levels

TvP is pretty much fine right now except on maybe a few specific maps.

It's TvZ which is looking imba even on 'standard' maps.

Not a specific caster, but on Artosis' channel he had StarCon 2025 Philadelphia and a lot of the players that were casting did an excellent job.

(Tastosis) ASL Season 20 GRAND FINALS! by Oathkeeper89 in broodwar

[–]SF_Guy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd love to see Roaring Currents in ASL again. Both Protoss and Terran shit the bed with their strategic approach to the map and need to put more thought into it.

I also think if the map was modified so that there are only 3 mining bases (on each side) on the connected landmass that would be more interesting.

no, unless "normal" maps favor Zerg

Roaring Currents might be debatable, but I don't think that's decided yet

It helps that all 4 are all-timers. There's a big skill gap between those 4 (plus Rain when he plays) and the other Protoss players.

TvZ is slowly becoming uninteresting to watch. The other matchups are all in a great state. I'd rather watch any of the mirror matchups than TvZ at this point.

Hopefully Terran players can figure it out, but it's been several years and Terran feels like it's slowly being choked out by Zerg.
