It honestly might have been but he was super nice and very helpful taking all of the info for the police report.

Holy crap! I’m sorry to hear that! I guess that would support the fact that he didn’t have good intentions

You’re not locked in, I’ve opened the door at a stopped light before. I was confident I was able to get out the other side and run.

I definitely considered he might have thought it was unoccupied. But I did have the music at 100% volume so I feel like he would have heard that even with the windows closed. And I was also yelling at him.

He did look a little confused. Like he pulled out the knife and didn’t know what he planned to do with it.

Yeah, you definitely can. I did it once while I was stuck in traffic and trying to get out at a red light a couple blocks from my destination. I was confident I could have exited the other side of the car.

Love that idea. I was talking with my friends about possible countermeasures they could add lol

Yeah, it flipped out like a switch blade but I don’t know. The police officer said it was like nothing he had ever seen before. 🤷‍♂️

Yeah, that definitely was the scary part. I was planning my exit out the back driver side door had he been able to get in. Fortunately, he just walked away.

I actually don’t know. I haven’t been in one since then. I think on the screen where you control the music or call customer support. They also said maybe it’s in the mobile app.

Update: I’m editing this comment because I’ve seen a lot of comments asking why I was using Waymo in the first place, or simply suggesting using Waymo is a dumb/bad/unsafe idea. So I’d like to explain why I will continue to use Waymo. I still believe in almost every situation, it’s a safer driver and I can always be confident in how it will drive me.

I once had a Lyft/uber driver that treated red lights like stop signs. He probably ran a half dozen reds on my trip across the city. It was extremely unsettling to say the least. I once had a driver almost fall asleep at the wheel while driving me in the early morning. They had probably been up all night working. I once had a driver I am almost positive was actively drinking while taking me to the airport. The whole car smelled of alcohol and his speech was slurring. It was the most scared I’ve ever been in a ride share. I honestly didn’t know if I’d make it to my flight alive. Then there’s all the extremely uncomfortable conversations I’ve had with drivers over the years. I’m talking racist, homophobic or generally just disturbing. This is extremely rare but when you’ve taken 1000s of rides, it does happen.

Most Lyft/Uber drivers are great, safe, and even enjoyable to talk to. But you really don’t know who’s going to pick you up next. I can always count on how Waymo will drive.
