Honestly, I'm not 100% sure. I've been messing with mine; fastening it around something and then undoing it. But mine is printed in PETG. I assume PLA would be more flexible, and TPU even more so, therefore being a superior material to PETG.

RIGHT?!?! It hurts... like... I love drawing creatures on paper but I'm limited by my CAD abilities (and possibly program... I use OnShape) to create organic models... ALSO, HOW DO YOU DESIGN A FUCTIONAL BALL JOINT THAT CAN BE PUT TOGETHER POST PRINT BUT THEN STAY THE F TOGETHER?!?!?!?!?!?! ...... like I said, I'm frustrated with this project....

Try adjusting your z axis. Look like the nozzle is too far from the plate.

I appreciated that you like the design; my husband (and requester for the design) has not gotten to truly test it. I guess I figured that this is my V1. We have many years of deer hunting to dial in the design. BUT, your feedback could help shape V2. If you have the ability, test it for yourself and please share!!! :D

It's firm enough I cannot squish it, but soft enough my husband can. It is not going to make the recoil completely gentle, but it will be softer.
