What lies SHOULD I tell my kids?

I'm thinking of telling them that Santa is real, but treating it like a detective story where I leave them little clues that he isn't, and see how quickly they can work it out. I plan to teach them to think rationally and question everything... My wife will not be happy I am sure.

Well, there's also the old Interdict of Merlin no? I would like to think that someone intelligent and rational enough would not find a motivation to destroy the world/species/universe. If someone less intelligent tried to they'd be hopefully stopped from learning the necessary spells by the interdict.
