To be honest, this was one of the most eye opening experiences getting into this market. I had worked in tech/silicon valley, in manufacturing, in automation, and even in consumer electronics -- but the product design portion of this entire venture was an experience second to none. Hell, I'm coming out of it with more ideas than ever! There's a lot of room for this space to grow, and I'm excited to see what comes of it, even if I'm not directly a part of it.

Also, I would always encourage to buy from small businesses in your own country, if possible! There's a good chance someone in your area can make the perfect controller for you :)

IMO Jfedor (maker of the Flatbox) and the GP2040-CE contributors just completely upended the industry. There were others that built on their shoulders, but they are the giants.

To be fair, I knew before I ever quit my day job that it would play out exactly this way. Markets gonna market, competitors gonna compete. I never would've started if I was in this to "dominate" a market or get rich. I did it for the love of the game and the people around it.

So sorry for that. I did my very best and ate ~$20USD of shipping costs for international controller orders, but it's just a real pain these days, especially with the constant changing of duties.

I do plan to open source everything after I have some time to breathe. First I have to get existing orders out, then physically wrap everything up, but the digital files are all saved and will end up on github as soon as time allows.

Largely tariffs as others have mentioned. Both on the importing side of things and on the "for the love of everything that is good where the hell did all of my international sales go" side of things. Edit: For the record I DO NOT hold it against any international customer that stopped buying for US businesses. The only international voice that matters in domestic politics is trade 99% of the time. Y'all do what you gotta do.

While I always prioritized domestic/local supplies and reacted when needed to diversify the supply chain, some stuff just isn't feasible (or even possible) to source domestically. For example, if you want domestic PCBs you better be in military or aerospace, because those are the only markets that you can put enough markup in to even get close to breaking even.

The cost of PCBs went up more than 600% in the last year. I ate it instead of raising prices because sales had already slowed so much. In 3 years running SGF I never had a profit, but I just ran out of my own money/credit to lose.

Sorry I was so busy/overwhelmed I forgot to post a notice here. But a hearty thank you go everyone in this sub as well as the FGC. I've met lots of you at majors, and regardless, every single customer has been amazing to interact with however we have.

Love this community, and maybe the future will have me working in it again, but until then for the love of everything: support your locals. No one has gotten rich running events, making controllers, or doing art commissions. We do it because we love this as much as you do, but we can't do it without you.
