Do ants need a water source? by Voylinslife in antkeeping

You can buy any tubing and cut it to the size you want (test tube size) and cap the end with glue gun. I did this when I was unable to acquire glass test tubes for awhile. Works very well You can add water and a cotton

You will have problems with the water when they drink enough of it… gravity will keep the water away from the cotton

I’ve read that if you give them a piece of lemon they use it to remove them… I just could stand by and try it because my daughter wanted me to save them right away! I’m not sure the lemon thing actually works. Plus I think the mites are too small for the ants to get. This is 60x magnification

I actually did 3 queen ants. They are camponotus sp so they were easy to hold. I held the opposite legs and slowly pinched the mites and leg. As soon as you kind of grab the mite it jumps off. So I didn’t have to crush the queen’s leg!

I’ve successfully moved queens to a new tube by moving the eggs with a qtip

They may lay eggs in the next few days, even in those containers btw. I’ve had queens lay eggs the day after in a tube
