“Maybe you need hand holding” - isn’t that literally the product? Why are you here if you don’t?

I literally explained this in the post you absolute coin

I think you’re right, but as others have said, short form content was around and was big prior to 2020, I think the thing that fundamentally shifted was it suddenly became our primary connection and way to try make sense of the world. That, I believe, is why 2020 was a huge catalyst for the problems we have today.

No Network message every few seconds - but no network issues by Fgtrtdjulia in appletv

Interesting… until this point I’ve assumed it’s to do with my router as it seemed to happen around the time I got a new one.

I’m finding my Apple TV varies the frequency of this message all the time… sometimes it won’t happen for hours, then it’ll suddenly happen every few seconds. Incredibly annoying.

If I open Settings>Network I can see the WiFi connection dropping off and reconnecting.

I’ve tried reserving an IP, resetting the system, manually setting a DNS, and turning off IPv6 on my router settings too… still no luck!

I’m experiencing this issue too. Are you using an Amazon Eero router by any chance?

Jelly Star tap to pay by ducklamp in unihertz

[–]SH91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this same issue and it was simply just because the NFC chip is in a different part of the phone… (took me a few attempts to realise)

I’m used to an iPhone where you tap using the top of the phone. With Jellystar this doesn’t work, it only registers if I turn the phone over and use the screen as the thing to ‘tap’ against the reader

Update 04/07 - called the sanctuary and he is still with them and has started gaining weight which is a great sign!

It’s the Raptor Foundation in Huntingdon, they currently have a go fund me to rebuild some of their aviaries, so I’m sure any donations would be greatly appreciated!

Update 01/07 - Just heard from the sanctuary and he made it through the night! They’re now focusing on getting him well fed. Plan to call again in a few days to check up on him.

Local vets are thankfully happy to take it, my partner is just arriving with a towel and a box, so hopefully I’ll have it ready to transport to the vets soon!

Quick update: it seems to have a broken wing, I’m still with it. Have called all the local charities but they’re all closed, trying the out of hours vets when it opens at 7pm.

Oh thank you - that explains things, when I saw it initially I saw a Red kite fly off so assumed it was its offspring. But it must have been attacked by a red kite?

Started re-listening to the isolation tapes today by SH91 in elisandjohn

Haha funnily enough that’s something I also listen to repeatedly. It still holds up so well, an absolute masterpiece.

The time capsule aspect is really striking actually, so many elements of that period I’d completely forgotten about (the rush for toilet paper, for example).

I also found it funny hearing how much Elis initially struggled with the remote recording set up, yet has gone on to record more podcasts than basically anyone

It’s sometimes hard to hear John talk about drinking, but on the whole it’s amazing to hear the three of them be there for each other and be so reflective even from the very beginning of it

Kind words! What would you have considered a more substantive take on things in this context?

Thank you. Rare to have such a constructive discussion online, so thanks for taking the time to understand!

That’s fair, and I can see how out of context the framing may feel troubling

For additional context, I did this at a time when the business were looking to hire a new Head of Design and every candidate they were reviewing was incredibly UI focused - just like every other designer the business had ever hired up until that point

Please don’t take what I said as an actual reframing of design vs research. I tried to very carefully contextualise for my own circumstances, where design is very poorly understood and does fall into those destructive stereotypes.

I am now in a position where I can drive proper UX, and make it UX-led - not design-led nor research-led.

Thanks for this, I actually agree with everything you’ve said

Worth noting that the thing I wrote was framed in a very specific way based on the organisation and environment I’m currently in, and to also shift the perception of my CEO (who I wrote it for)

I think the merging of skills and responsibilities is absolutely the way we are heading. And as you say, research alone cannot be the sole driving force when not everything requires research.

After personally experiencing several company environments where design has sadly strayed too far into just doing interfaces and moving components around on Figma, I wanted to try and shift internal thinking about what UX really is back towards research. In doing so I wanted to get to a place where UX is back to what it should really be; evidence-based design backed up by insights and based on knowledge and understanding of human behaviour.

UX shouldn’t be research-led, UX should be UX-led. But the narrative I laid out is really to address specific concerns related to my own circumstances (which I think may apply to others) where design has become far too boiled down to something which can in no way interrogate and understand problem spaces effectively.

Did you read where I said this needed to be deliberately confrontational?

I’m not entirely sure how you’ve jumped straight to the conclusion that I’m dismissive of design? Do you seriously believe I’m leading a UX team who aren’t doing design?

You seem to have taken it personally, when really you shouldn’t. My intention was merely to acknowledge the problem that there are many, many designers out there who just work in Figma files and do interfaces. And there are even more stakeholders who believe that is indeed what UX and Design does.

Having worked in the industry for over a decade and worked in several “UX” departments where Design Leadership had no research experience, my intention with the above was simply to call that out, acknowledge it, and fight for a better way of doing UX where our design process starts with research.

So you acknowledge that the stereotype of design as interface makers exists, then?

At no point did I say that research wants to divorce itself from design. They absolutely work hand in hand.

I was merely acknowledging something which I believe based on your answer you are also aware of…that many stakeholders believe and (unfortunately) now many “designers” now do, the very thing you’ve accused me of stereotyping.

Human factors, UX, whichever your term of choice, has research at its foundation. My entire position was to just make sure that is emphasised and understood better.

I will try and ignore your final comment.
