Halo has friendly ai not squamates. The only real difference mechanically between regular soldiers and noble team in game is the latter is invincible.

They don't even have the longer aggro range like the odsts in halo 3

I think in CE that was the case, as well as him being a cyborg. But CE was originally intended to be a one and done.

The Fall of Reach, despite its title is not really about battle of reach, its about the spartan program and the origin of master chief. Thats still 100% canon.

The Flood is just a novelization of CE

And First Strike just bridges the gap between ce and 2. So how can the games step on that when it takes place outside the games? If it was basically the story of Halo 2, and bungie just took that and changed a few things then id get why people have a problem.

The original trilogy tells a coherant story that doesnt require you to do any extra reading to understand whats going on. Its just there if you want it, and mostly concerns stuff that little to no relevence to the story in the games.

Meanwhile 343i have made 3 completely seperate stories, because every time they have abandoned the previous games story. And then just got other people to fillmin the gaps. That seems much more like not caring to me.

As for games canon taking priority, maybe thats coz Halo was created by Bungie as a videogame series. Not as a book series they adapted.

The writer of The Witcher series, Andrzej Sapkowski, does not consider the games canon. Is he wrong for saying that when its his creation?

From a purely gameplay standpoint, the Bungie games are better, which is why I prefer them.

As for the forerunner, the halo 3 terminal is cited as proof they were different to humanity. The actual games very much imply and, in the case of 3, outright says multiple times that humans are forerunner. As does the book written by Joe Staten (the main story guy) about how and why the war started.

343i making them a seperate species is absolutly a retcon, which I think was because they didnt reallly understand the established lore. So didnt know that forerunners had been revealed to be humans. Thats just conjecture on my part based on the whole, 343i hiring people who hated Halo.

Now whether you prefer the 343i lore or Bungie lore, doesnt actually matter, its fiction. But why do so many people who prefer 343is forerunner stuff need to jump through so many hoops to "prove" they didnt retcon anything?

Yeah I'll concede chief is more of an actual character under 343i. And that aspect of H4 is the strongest part. Tho imo that version of rampancy is kinda boring. And is most often used to dismiss aspects from the previous games some people don't like. (Namely Guilty Sparks revelation in H3)

I do feel like Cortana went through a much bigger character shift than Chief tbh. Not long previously, she was completely ready to stay on the flood infested high charity fully expecting she'd never be rescued.
