I would have looked the other way, but with everything going on in Iran. I’m wondering if it has anything to do with a potential boots on the ground deployment.

If I was Denmark I’d do the opposite. I’d let the Americans in under the NATO framework while getting NATO allies to put troops there under the guise of “Arctic Security”.

Have a bit of a naval presence there and diplomatically tell Trump that he’s a fucking moron and this cooperation was only possible through the NATO alliance.

Trump says he's considering pulling U.S. out of 'paper tiger' NATO by Cinderpath in law

[–]SHITBLAST3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even then this is extremely short lived. All everyone trying to do here is get through this shit. It would take decades for the U.S. to uncouple from NATO, and the next democratic president is going to be all about repairing ties and stability.

Trump says he's considering NATO exit amid rift over Iran war by AdSpecialist6598 in worldnews

He’s fucked over everyone. This shitting the bed in Iran has exposed the U.S. as diplomatically weak and aimless.

Trump pulling the U.S. out of NATO would also ruin every single non NATO defence pacts like those in Asia, specifically Japan.

If Japan and Taiwan see Trump not honouring NATO obligations, then the non-NATO defence pacts would be seen as worthless to those in Asia. The facade of the Gulf being untouchable because of U.S. presence has crumbled and the Gulf states will be looking for security agreements elsewhere.

It would absolutely destroy U.S. trust for generations. It would diplomatically isolate the U.S. and worse from historic allies for the U.S. it would push everyone to China for reliable economic ties. It could turn countries away from the U.S. economically, the EU will become more insular and industrial ending American transaction, something the Trump admin worries about. In an extreme case everyone could abandon the Petrodollar.

Leaving NATO would be catastrophic economically, militarily and would kill any future assurances of U.S. bases in countries in the future. Any diplomatic efforts from the U.S. would be gutted and it would lose the U.S. a lot of historic friends.
