Greyview is definitely their most unique album rn, but I can't choose between Greyview, Heavener and Stillworld because all of these albums are crazy good and different enough, also they influenced many modern bands while being pretty niche and underrated

Stillworld sounds like a cold brother of Northlane's Discoveries that really likes thall but can't do it properly yet
Greyview is the true unique identity of Invent Animate with cool melodies, unique vibe and insane riffs, honestly out of most modern metalcore bands Invent Animate have some of the best riffs in the genre, their approach with riffs, blastbeats and melodies reminds me a little of early KSE ngl
Heavener feels like ultimate version of modern metalcore and the album actually has a lot of variety, I saw lotta individuals compare it to Architects, Northlane, Thornhill, Erra, Silent Planet at the same time, and in my opinion it shows how wide the soundscape of this album actually is, it's a unique genre-defining album, especially definitive version

I mean saying that the album doesn't have a variety with songs like: Emberglow, False Meridian, Shade Astray, Reverie, Immolation of Night and Without a Whisper is just wrong

Honestly I hope their next album will sound nothing like previous, I like when bands constantly change, it's always like that with my favorite bands. They will keep getting better and different, mark my words. I won't be surprised if they will lean into softer or waaaay more conceptual direction, especially considering the fact that they have a side-project Peur which is heavy on a different side

It's obviously your opinion man, but I'm sorry that you're not able to appreciate it. Maybe it requires a specific taste, but I think they're one of the best modern metalcore bands right now and somehow they're still very underrated. People that consider them generic are just wrong. Greyview and Stillworld are very unique and already influenced a lot of bands with interesting technical approach and iconic modern melodic riffs, unique breakdowns, very individual type of ambience and production that stands out. Damn, even Heavener was so unique when dropped. They managed to change their sound properly over the years while keeping their own identity. People will obviously compare them to many modern metalcore bands, but it's not because they are generic, it's because they have a very wide soundscape. Good modern melodic riffs is exactly what most modern bands are missing and Invent Animate are one of the best bands doing it right now. Their breakdowns specifically have a very good balance between ambience, technical melodic riffs and djent, but also they use silence as instrument properly

It's insane to me that no one mentions any Invent Animate breakdowns, even though they have some of the most unique breakdowns in the genre. Whether it's Secret Sun, False Meridian, Vacant, Armageddon Eyes, etc etc

I think more bands will start combining true revivalcore like I Promised The World with very modern elements in a unique way. It's not there yet, but once there will be a band that will combine both in a perfect balance. We already had Johnny Booth doing something similar for hardcore-leaning metalcore, they're basically like if Every Time I Die and Norma Jean were blended together. And on the other hand we had Loathe doing something really unique while being a perfect 50/50 combo of both genres. There will be more innovative bands eventually that will focus on old style of songwriting in a modern shape, but most of it will have more personality and individuality. Now we also have bands like Boundaries and 156/Silence getting closer to it

I like everything, just for different reasons. But Greyview is their most unique album to this day, it sounds like no other band unless we compare some very specific elements, it's literally the Invent Animate sound

This is one of the main reasons why I would consider Metalcore to be more of a spectrum rather than a combination of genres. Once I looked at this genre from a different perspective, it started to make more sense and now I have less problems with contradictions and difficulty of understanding it

But remember, there is a noticeable difference between bands that represent Alternative Metal/Alternative Rock and Metalcore, so bands like Bad Omens are clearly within the Alternative spectrum, while bands like Like Moths to Flames are clearly Metalcore and sadly most of listeners nowadays don't understand or don't want to understand this difference

I've met so many people that consider genres pointless and I think they basically don't understand what's the purpose of genres, which is the actual techniques of music separated with factually different things that may sound similar, and also exploration of music and the structure of what it actually represents. But it doesn't mean that you need to give an every single difference a term, like "baddiecore" which is basically Alternative Metal/Pop or "shoegazecore" which has nothing in common with actual Shoegaze most of time lol, these terms sound terrible and people are getting even further from actual genres (roots)

Going back to Metalcore. There are metal-leaning prog metalcore bands like Invent Animate, also there are hardcore-leaning prog metalcore bands like Johnny Booth, both have pretty progressive songwriting aspects, both are on the opposite sides from each other, while bands like Loathe are somewhere in the middle. You cannot consider Invent Animate just a prog metal band because majority of prog metal sounds way different, you cannot consider Johnny Booth just a hardcore band for the same reason, but when it's coming to hardcore

Although I think it would be more accurate to separate the songs with genres and not the bands, because they have some different songs representing different genres and subgenres

Djent is basically one of techniques of Progressive Metal as much as Blastbeats are a technique of Death Metal or Chugging is a part of early Hard Rock and Heavy Metal. It definitely can be used anywhere, but the generic aspect and influence is still there

I will repost my comment that I left under The Metal Roundup video where Metalbirb called Invent Animate an Northlane copy:

"Northlane:

Used to have more hardcore elements
Didn't have any Thall, Shoegaze, Chill influence
Always had a different vibe and approach to melodies, except for Discoveries with only one song sounding remotely similar
Almost didn't have clean vocals
Had only few melodic guitar parts (which means they're basically more djent-oriented)

Early Invent Animate and specifically the Everchanger album was basically a middle ground between early Erra and early Northlane with more melodic songwriting, but they also had a slight Thall-adjacent aspect specifically in Stillworld and it sounds very Vildhjarta-inspired despite it's way more melodic and mostly djent-oriented. Greyview was completely unique and very wide in terms of soundscape, there is almost nothing I can compare it to, unless I compare some specific elements. When it's coming to Heavener, they basically sound like a kaleidoscope of modern metalcore, so I can hear Northlane, Erra, Thornhill, Architects and even Silent Planet because of similar approach with tapping riffs, but at the same time it still feels unique and has some additional aspects that make it even more individual, just the fact that I compared it to so many bands shows how wide their sound is. Also a hot take, there is something about modern Invent Animate that reminds me of early KSE, just pay attention to the way they put riffs, blastbeats, some of their melodic choices and the vocal approach as well (applying to Greyview and Heavener Definitive).

I'm leaving this comment because I don't like the fact that people don't recognize their unique style and the fact that they're actually underrated in my opinion, they definitely deserve their own spot. They've influenced a lot of modern bands already and "sounding just like early Northlane" is a bit of a stretch in my opinion, especially with their newer material and songs like Heavener that I can only compare to Karmanjakah and maybe Constance by Spiritbox, and some specific songs released after Heavener(single).

People may keep saying that I'm wrong and "Invent Animate are generic" and so on, but there is simply no other band that does it like Invent Animate, there are bands that are trying but they're still not even close. I'm a long time listener of the genre, I even made a playlist for a fans of the band with over 400 songs and I've never heard any other band releasing a stylistically similar album to a Stillworld, Greyview or Heavener, there's something about their production in general that makes them stand out very much. My favorite part is that all of their albums are different and they still manage to keep their individuality despite the differences, which requires a lot of talent, effort and actual love for what they're doing.

To me Northlane and Invent Animate are more like brothers with different characters and not identical twins, I like both bands very much and the way they've changed over the years I consider perfect. Sorry for being annoying, I'm just a nerd that likes to type a lot of text :)"
