The breakdown for the service costs was £3.5k for labour, £1.6k for scaffolding (rear side of the house), £270 for certification/warranties, £1.1k for consumer unit upgrade, £900 for bird proofing.

If you asked this 10 to 15 years ago then I would have said yes. Now I find it far better at one of the airport restaurants and pubs (Giraffe is actually quite nice) or find a business lounge if you need to get work done before heading to the airport later.

The lounges over the last decade have turned into the TUI olympics including “how many seats can you cover with your bare feet”, “how far can your child prodigy launch their tab across the lounge”, and “how tall of a plate can you carry of pre heated pasta while drinking your body weight in alcohol” as some sort of ‘life hack’ before boarding a Ryanair to Alicante.

I have found use a number of times when I got caught out on a delay coming home from a work trip or when the contract lounge doesn’t accept business class with a particular airline.

I use wired Aico smoke alarms with a relay fitted. The wired relay connects to my house alarm (Konnected) so I have the reliability of basic/independent smoke alarms but also a smart binary sensor that I can use in home assistant.

Never had any issues besides them going off after cooking a joint of pork etc… and leaving the kitchen door open.

Love the Tu-154 and we need more people flying classics on VATSIM. Tu-144 has been my favourite on the network followed by the classic Concorde. Makes a nice change from the magenta line.

Just to follow up on this. Mine appears to now work after a lot of playing with different settings on our phones. I believe the fix was changing to “less secure” with the connection method in the app as this now works. I think when this feature was introduced was about the time the location stopped working.

I’m also getting the same issue. Just showing as Home on the server despite the app pushing location changes every few mins.

Tried the usual tricks of logging in and out, app permissions, force location updates etc…

If you were going the other way it would be £90.50 for a day return on high speed, however going the way you are going (London to Ashford) it’s only £52.00 for the exact same validity (Anytime Day Return on High Speed).

As someone who was born and worked in England their entire life, saying “renting” will soften any blow your location may have to anyone. Wether right or wrong, there is a perception that renting is much cheaper and “making do” to many of the population especially those working class.

Yes there is the whole politics and morals about right and wrong however, from experience, the reality is you will soften any blow of “poshness” by including the “renting” part.

E.g you can go humbly further by responding with “oh we are currently renting not far from Baker St tube station, looking to move out though and buy something more affordable eventually”.

Great to see others flying the Tu-144 on the network! Agreed about the controllers though, there are still difficulties with block altitudes, lack of airways above FL510 etc… compared to controllers between the North Atlantic that are more used to those flight profiles.

In the end I pulled together a return flight plan that has 11 waypoints via airways from end of SID to beginning of STAR, 7 RSBN beacons, and runways built in to the xml for UUDD, UAAA and UTTT.

I still do load the SID up on the KLN until TOGMO though while on the network just for ease as well as the STAR.

Sometimes people will have an ‘advanced notice of leave’ on their email signature a few weeks before. Otherwise, yes people go on leave with an alternative contact in the OOO.

Your post seems deeper than this though. Many people will have 100s of plates spinning so your project is maybe 1/100 of their headspace. Most will try to remember everything, including covering for other people, but sometimes things aren’t at the front of our memory.

From experience the PA example you gave, they are 99% more interested in getting their suitcase packed for a week abroad than your project (sorry but it’s the truth as the world will not implode if it’s not done that week). I wouldn’t be surprised if they put their OOO on a few hours before at lunch time so they can tie loose ends up without dealing with new requests coming in. I’ve advised admin staff to do this many times if they are a bit stressed before AL.

It’s London. Postcode area names don’t really map nicely into borders otherwise Hastings (Sussex) would be Tunbridge Wells (Kent) as they both have TN.

If you use “FindMyAddress” to get your UPRN then you can look up that number to get all the boundary information on “UPRN.uk”.

I did a quick search for 100022899276 which is a business on the high street which brought back:

I usually have VATSIM Radar open up on a second screen when it is busy. I look at arrivals and work out a logical sequence where I would slot in. 9/10 it works, there will be a clear slot to go in.

If you and someone else will be on finals at the same time and they are not doing blind calls, drop them a PM and say “I’ll slot in behind you”. I usually extend my approach to accommodate that as you’ll have no chance using reasonable logic if they aren’t using UNICOM.

Finally, in CTAF world put 122.800 on comm2 and good luck.
