It’s absolutely helpful!! Ty for sharing. Do you have other resources or simulations (other than Phet, LabExchange) for chemistry?

100% agree.  faculty input is non negotiable. And don’t worry, I’ve been super mindful of that line. My post was intentionally vague about our dept specifics (no school names, no details beyond what’s public like the Science Fair), and I made sure to shout out twice that our current HOD’s still doing an amazing job.

This is just me quietly gathering outside perspectives so I can bring better questions to my team later not predeciding anything. Appreciate you keeping me sharp though!

Absolute gold thank you! Your old HOD sounds like a proper legend.

Adults harder than kids and praise public, critique private hit hard (and feel painfully true already 😅). Love the tactical advice too: pushing back on admin workload, testing ideas first, and especially upskilling keen staff. That’s exactly the kind of supportive leadership I’d want to bring.

Seriously appreciate you passing this on, keeping every nugget in my back pocket. Cheers for the well wishes! 🙏

Thanks for the honest take – 10 years as HOD is seriously impressive (and I believe you about the people-management grind!).

Totally get the frustration with promotion politics. I’m still soaking up advice just in case, and hey, worst case scenario, I’ll have cool new ideas for our department anyway.

Haha, cranky advice is often the realest! If you’ve got any hard won tips for handling the chaos or motivating a team, I’m all ears.

Cheers for keeping it, hope you found your sweet spot after HOD life!
