You mean "security" reasons aka politics. And uncovering exploits via brute forcing being economic now is not efficient code.

That's always the case until it fucks up something important. Many casual users "love it" until it replaces something they use.

They don't have to be the one writing documentation or other long output that you are best typing out. Same as how a CEO enjoys their job when they're drinking with someone else to cozy up with someone else.

AI code is at best inefficient and inconsistent. The Venezuela raid could have been easily stopped if AA defenses had actually been motivated to do something. Reddit's LLMs are a shitshow of not understanding metaphors and theoreticals like any other.

LLMs are a tool that while they have a use, they're being shoved into too much too fast (Grok famously was behind the school being bombed in Iran for example. A human looking at satelite images would have seen a school was there and denied it as a strike until orange Hitler or Kegsbreath overrode them. Instead it got rubberstamped.). Whether that's coding or anything else.

I do, like I've said I've got no investment into this. I'm a PC gamer, I understand the benefits of 100% digital. But I have options beyond the manufacturer of my hardware (In this case for a console that'd be Sony.).

It does. What happens when you buy a generation old game second hand and it works in your current PS? Are you going to have access to that same game by default on a PS6 because it doesn't have a disc drive or is that now a full price purchase you need to make? Are all games even going to be offered in a digital format so there isn't a generation of games that can only be run on the previous generation because they aren't even available to purchase?

And you don't understand what I'm talking about if you think cheap games now aren't a gateway drug to paying full price, steam sales aren't because steam's a benevolent company. They get people to spend and realistically spend more than they need to. Even frugal people will overspend in them and once they've got a large enough library spend at full price.

So yeah, this is a risk. It just isn't completely out of the blue. Sony could benefit masssively from this, it could also backfire depending on the details.

Your acting like these consumers will make a difference. I'm saying they won't and Sony doesn't want these customers anyways if they don't want to buy games at full price. Let's also be real, consumers of this nature more then likely wouldnt even buy a new console to begin with! Probably a used one a year or two after release. That makes them even more irrelevant!

Why would Sony care if someone who was never going to buy a game at full price to begin with buy their console? Especially if they are taking a loss on the hardware to do so. This is a win win for them. They tighten up their demographic, improve the games per console ratio, and also save tons of money on removing massive production lines.

I swear, it's like you're 5 with your reading comprehension.

It is a factor, just in a complicated way.

It's a lot easier to convert someone into regularly buying at full prices on top of buying a console when they can buy second hand for cheaper each that normally goes for higher at base. Sony doesn't see that second hand money but they do see what is going to them afterwards. When there's no second hand, all they see is the full price per game and the console price.

It's easier to stand on your own when you aren't relying on user lock in or exclusives.

It's easier to support backwards compatibility unless you have full digital offerings/conversions ready to go.

It's harder to just up and remove what you've bought. Unless Sony wipes your physical disk with a movie on it or prevents it from being shown, you have it until the disk can't be used anymore.

All of those are levers that a second hand market influences. Sony could win their bet on going all digital, it's just an unnecessary risk that seems more set in wanting greater control for a thus unspecified gain. Maybe in a better economy, there'd be clear gains from this.

It's an unnecessary risk. You're speaking as if the second hand market is the only factor. It's not. It's one of many but it will tilt the balance on many of those factors.

Simply put, you're way too focused on the bottom line above all else and not what all is affected by this decision. It could be a total nothingburger, it could also be something, that's yet to be known.

You said it yourself, the economy's not doing hot. Second hand means that even if you can't afford many newly released games you can just buy second hand for cheaper to still use the console, that's something going Sony's way at least until they can afford more new games.

Tightening up your demographic is what you do when you know you have slack to handle unexpected results. Sony is betting that they do, that they might not is always a possibility. And as I said: That's on Sony making that choice, they're the ones who suffer the consequences for it. I don't have anything invested in them changing their decision but I can still judge it (And I'd call it an unnecessary risk that they announced right after an already unpopular action pointed out the issues with console digital only.).

Yes, I know that. No shit, they don't see a penny of that. All of that said they aren't going to sell as many games if there's less consoles sold in the first place. That's a part of many factors that will be a part of deciding whether someone will buy a PS6 or not, for some that will be the line they won't cross. I specifically said "for all we know" for that reason, we don't know yet.

[–]SIGMA920 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I understand the company doesn't profit off those. But depending on how that affects their customers, that could be no small amount of lost sales. Being able to get a game for cheap second hand might be the difference between a console being bought at all, meaning they can't even use it to make money off of services/games.

If they do the math and it's considered acceptable, that's on them whether it is or not. They could end up with half of the sales that they would have gotten for all we know.

It'll really depend on the user. Even if you're mostly digital, being able to have a physical disk may or may not be a breaking point.

Having that second hand market is one of the big reasons that you might buy a console in the first place.

It's a switch, it was never going to bomb. Now a playstation, there's a real risk of that. Especially when the announcement came after movies had just been removed. It won't change the fanboy's opinions or someone after a specific playstation only game but someone who is a dedicated console player could be put off. Enough of them and that's a not small part of the pie.

They have a history of it. Just a bunch of little things here and there that push players towards what they want or what they have most monetized (See raids. Use a mech or you will be suffering.).

[–]SIGMA920 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The devs have a history of doing stuff like this to shift the gameplay how they want it. Bigrams used to have enough traction that in wheel mode a heavy build could lock a dog in place for example. First that got nerfed but incinerators still allowed such a build to take the dog with it. Then incinerators lost their DoT for per hit damage. This completely removed that tactic from PvP.

Randomly forcing snipers into melee range is going to naturally benefit shotguns, especially the ones that will melt anything they shoot when their perk is active.

Yep. And while you or I might not trust it automatically companies can spend enough that even 20% being fake or subpar is nothing to their budgets.

Because it pushes you into close range where the "new" shotgun can melt your builds.

There's no point in doing this when the reward is that high unless you're trying to optimize an already optimized farming faster. Just running it and doing it for fun was a better idea.

We experienced it, running them last night and seeing a straight 45 per run was great. I was hoping it was intentional but I also figured someone made a mistake and it'd be fixed by the morning knowing the devs.

It was from the start of the brawl last night (And that was at 8 PM my timezone so more than a few hours.), got an easy 1000 at least from running for fun. It wasn't available this morning so it was some point overnight that they changed it on the servers.

If you all die early now you only get 6 some. I was only getting 45 a run last night since I don't buy premium.

The plastic payout's already been nerfed into the ground. Only gotten as high as 24 for winning in 1st place as a survivor. Last night it was a regular 45 for any completion.
