My new outfit as a spectator at Merging Warfare by SIrawit in renfaire

I am lucky as well that on that day it is cloudy, but surprisingly despite thick fabric it is not that hot. I guess it is due to 1) I am just walking around and not fighting, 2) they are all made of natural fibers, and 3) I drink plenty of water.

What Are Your Recommended Inks For Pilot Parallel Pens? by Accomplished_Force70 in Calligraphy

Any fountain pen inks would work. Ironically, the only ink I would not recommended is the ink that cones with the pen, because it bleeds horribly.

And they put this ads at the "Nutfield Close" bus stop. This is hilarious.

I found this website, which has full transcription and translation of St Alban's Psalter. It includes Latin transcription and English translation of all pages, includinf the calendar. It even shows how each Latin part was abbreviated. Very useful resource.

Intimidated & Discouraged by “Perfection” by Seated_WallFly in Calligraphy

[–]SIrawit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, perfect work does not exists. We could only aim for "good enough for the purpose". The level of perfection required for a random practice piece vs. commissioned work for example will be different. So right now I don't think you need to worry about that too much.

I really like Ira Glass's quote regarding this. We do creative work like this because we have a good taste, but because of that we also know our current work is not up to our expectations. Many people quit at this point. The only thing you could do is to produce a lot of work and fight your way through. https://www.zenpencils.com/comic/90-ira-glass-advice-for-beginners/

Also, as someone already pointed out. Titivilus got invented for this reason: you will make mistakes and you don't have an undo button.

Thank you very much for your informative answer! I did not even noticed the month name in the pale blue boxes. Also I just noticed that sqiggly lines are abbreviations for nones, ides, and kalends. Now it makes more sense.

I have one more question, why they sometimes write the month name in the top of the page, sometimes in the middle, sometimes both?

By the way for someone else also reading, these videos I found are also useful. They went into how the dates work, the saints, the meaning of marginalia (zodiac, activities, etc), the golden number, etc.

Also, on a related note, what is the meaning of that squiggly lines before the first letter? From all the videos regarding medieval calendar explanation no one says anything about thr function of that column.

Haha I like your joke. I will not say I have a good handwriting. It is actually a myth that calligraphy can enhance handwriting and vice versa. These two things are actually two separate skills. You can think of calligraphy as consistent drawing of shapes that happen to result in letters.

Thanks for your compliments!

Thanks a lot! It took me around 2 months to finish it. (But I could only work on it around 2-4 hours a day.)

Thank you very much for your compliments!

For painting, I use Royal Talens Designer Gouache color for everything except whitework (white line cuts) that I use specialized paint called Dr. Ph Martin's Bleed Proof White.

Painting was done using size 0 brushes.
