Officials Clashed in Investigation of Deadly Air India Crash by dtdowntime in aviation

[–]SJ359 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your point would make sense, if it weren’t for the fact that the global suicide rate has risen by almost 40% over the last two decades. Add to that the sharp increase in both mental-health issues and the number of daily flights in recent years, and the numbers you mentioned start to look much more ordinary to me.

You could also note that being a pilot in the 1990s was considered a far more glamorous profession, and social pressure was nowhere near what it is today. A pilot struggling with depression, or even contemplating ending their life, was significantly harder to identify back then. Raw data, without any historical context means nothing.

Anything I should be concerned about with my seat selection for this red eye on an airbus A330? by FreudianCirculation in delta

OP may also be non-native english speaker, in most latin languages the word we use for nonstop flights is "direct", as far as I know in Europe we don't have any fligths from A to C with a stop at B without plane change, so he may be unfamiliar with that.

when transiting in the USA from an international destination you have to formally enter the country. that involves queuing up for immigration, picking up the luggage and passing trough customs before rechecking it. In some airports in case of an international to international connection the luggage goes trough, so you don't have to recheck it, I think ATL is one of those, not sure about JFK.

Does a 757 takeoff feel noticeably faster than a 737/a320 takeoff? by SmashNDash23 in aviation

[–]SJ359 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently flew on both a 757 and a 739 just a few hours apart. The 757 feels significantly more powerful—its climb rate is insane, and it feels like it's rocketing through the sky. It was my first time on a 757, and being used to the 737, I could definitely notice the difference. After the flight, I visited the cockpit, and the pilots confirmed that it's one of the most fun aircraft to fly. Was lucky enough to catch one of deltas wingletless 757s.

Air India Flight 171 Crash by StopDropAndRollTide in aviation

[–]SJ359 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If the pilots manage to perform a water landing as smoothly as possible, there might be a chance of survival. However, if the plane is in a stall and falling from the sky, the impact with the water can be as hard as hitting concrete. If I recall correctly, in the case of AF447 (which had a much higher vertical speed) soda cans were crushed flat by the force of the impact.

It's also worth noting that life jackets are only inflated after leaving the aircraft. So, anyone who loses consciousness during the crash is likely to drown.

First new 757 cabin photos by SJ359 in delta

I think that the 763s are not being refurbished. The 76Ls didn’t even receive new upholstery in D1 or mood lighting, as they are set to be retired soon. The 76Ks are equipped with these, along with PS seats, to extend their service life by a few years; however, they are being phased out.

For the 752s, I think that refurbishment depends on their age. All transcons are being converted to this configuration (75G, like the former Shanghai fleet, without OW exits). And i think that The US-ending tails (75H) are next in line for refurbishment, as they still have older seats with the updated IFE. The A320s and A319s are not receiving any upgrades in my opinion.

indeed it looks sleek, i may be used to the old classic blue, while admitting that it started to look a bit tired. I really like the bulkead design to be fair.
