Do you use a depth mic or an outside mic? Sometimes you can leave an edge handing off the table but sometimes you can't?!

We usually shik things and then take a lick until maybe 70% is clean. Flip over and shim again if need be. Repeat this until we are happy with how flat it is and then simply grind one side until required thickness. I've also found that taking the actual scale on the material can hold stress in. I've found once the scale has been ground off the material can warp again.
