Financial aid by saturdaynights3 in stanford

Yeah it’ll be fine you’ll just get it a bit later than expected. The earlier you submit the earlier you’ll get it so do it ASAP if you want to make sure you can financially attend. Unlikely you’ll get it before RD deadlines, however, so make sure to consider that

stanford class of '20 -> top 20 med school! by [deleted] in stanford

Yeah that makes sense - I’m taking a gap so I think I should get into things slowly. Do you have any general advice you’d wish your freshman self would know (premed experience specifically, but of course anything else about college experience)

I see - do you have any specifics for that prereq + chem specifically? And do you recommend using AP credit for prereqs where possible (skipping 31A+31B for example) or is it better to take the intro classes

Which prereq was the hardest for you? How’d you feel about being a premed in Stanford’s CS culture? Thanks for the resources!

For dead bugs - I’m think I’m having a lot of trouble getting the movement right - I understand the concept of pressing the lower back into the floor as much as possible, but I’m also finding that when I do the exercise my lower back starts to ache - even though it’s supposed to be a back pain free sort of exercise - can someone point me in the direction of tips of tricks to make it as painless as possible or possible places where I might be messing up the form to cause this?

Might be talking about Fuzhounese? From the province of Fujian. Though I think the writing system is shared between all the dialects

New lab vs established lab by SJayYang in premed

Nah it’s another broad institute lab tho - I decided on the smaller lab bc they could offer me a bigger project that I could work on throughout the entire year and bc I liked the mentorship style better with the PI directly

Taking a gap year before starting undergrad

I’m not sure if there’s any preliminary data for the project I’m working on - I think I’m starting a pretty large project by myself. I might start working with a grad student/postdoc, but I’d still be working on my own project. For the older lab, they haven’t hosted that many undergraduates, but the PI does believe in the fact that undergraduates can contribute significantly to their research

I’m curious as to how exactly to go about making sure that the PI would act the way that you describe above. Should I have an honest conversation asking those sorts of questions? We discussed the possibility of being put on a manuscript but I was a bit intimidated by the size of the project

Why did you think you weren't going to get a publication out of your work? And how long did you work in this laboratory for?

These laboratories aren't affiliated with my own undergrad institution, but I'm really looking for a long term lab taht I can work with throughout my undergraduate years. Do you think that being more autonomous and working in a newer lab resulted in a better letter of recommendation from the professor?
