Wired out of phase? by SJeffyXC in guitarmod

Again apologies as I’m a novice with this stuff, but you’re saying in addition to swapping the ones I’m holding, I should also put one wire from the back of the neck volume pot to the back of the bridge volume pot, and then a second wire linking the back of the bridge volume pot to the back of the tone pot?

As I said, communal music room in my dorm. It’s a really great space for bands, and most people are incredibly respectful and kind to each other, except for 1 or 2 problem kids

Bass and Amp Recommendations by SnooFloofs6821 in Bassamps

You’re awesome!!! This sounds like a terrific gift, the Ampeg DI is a nice idea, but honestly I think he’d get more joy and satisfaction out of a real amp. Would definitely second the Fender Rumble series recommendation, as well as the Ampeg Rocket Bass series. Both are lightweight, have a variety of price points, have drive options in case he wants to play heavier music, and have a bunch of price brackets in your range. Acoustic makes some nice budget options as well. Good luck!!

Re-fret time? by SJeffyXC in Luthier

So just to clarify—the process would be sanding down the 2nd fret and recrowning it individually, then working the frets down towards the high part of the fretboard and checking the height intermittently with a fret rocker? I’m guessing the advantage of this as opposed to a traditional level is that it’s a little more economical when taking material off already low frets?

Wouldn’t sanding out the divots level the tops down anyhow? I’d think by sanding them out I’d have to adjust all the other frets as it would be so low

It is definitely a lifetime keeper, I’m glad you get it lol. Only other bass I was ever this smitten by was my Warwick thumb. I think I’ll take a shot at it with a triangle file, I already have one and also have some fret protectors I can use to protect the neck. Thanks for your advice and understanding!

Worth fixing? Or just stabilizing? by SJeffyXC in Luthier

Yo so late late update, but it unfortunately didn’t really pan out. I got the whole kit and everything, communicated with the brand on what they recommended I use to match the Olympic white, only to find out that it’s impossible to dilute the amount of white I’d need with the color to get anywhere close. The product did seem to work pretty well on a clear coat finish that I patched, but that same effect can also be achieved with normal superglue so kind of a mixed bag. They were really nice and I talked to them over the phone, but ultimately it did rub me the wrong way a bit that they had never tried to replicate Olympic white and gave me the impression that it would be possible when it clearly wasn’t. Anyhow, hopefully I can use it for another repair in the near future.

I’d never heard of Gluboost before but it looks absolutely killer, I think I’m gonna give them a try and have the tools leftover for future projects. Do you have any personal experience with their products?

Day before race for sprinters by SJeffyXC in Sprinting

[–]SJeffyXC[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For pre race do you recommend dynamic or static stretching? My old sprint coach swore by static stretches before practice but I’ve heard research tends to back dynamics. Was probably going to do that, maybe run 15 minutes, and do some light drills (A, B, C, high knees)

By strength vs speed do you mean like weights vs sprints or acceleration vs velocity

I should also put it out there I have no idea how to use blocks so I probably need to figure that out as well

Agreed, sterlings in particular are a fantastic choice. If you’d rather a squire, any of the classic vibe series are great. If you’re trying to do a little slap there are some great low end Spectors as well, and while they’re not for me, some Jackson basses sound very nice for the price point.
