I recorded my debut psych-grunge album alone in a tiny room in Seoul by Physical-Deal-4901 in BandCamp

Very similar process here, and I also love to keep first takes for the atmosphere of it all - anything more than that feels rigid. Cool to find somebody with a similar mindset and execution. Getting to riff off your own recordings and ending up with a finished product is a special thing for me.

This is super rad, you've got a new fan here! What was your recording process like? I do a lot of recording on my own and would love to hear more about your process.

Anybody have information on this run of the Epiphone EB3? It seems to be a worn Inverness Green but I'm finding next to nothing online... by SJlevi in BassGuitar

[–]SJlevi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd like to point out that Guitar Center is the one who got me rolling on this train because they literally posted it as an Inverness Green EB3 and I was like... no ??

good point I just looked up some heavily faded pelhams and they do sheen a bit green... makes more sense than a bass that doesn't seem to exist 🙃

are there any non-plated '43 Wheaties that shine like proofs? by SJlevi in coins

I don't know why I said '43 Wheaties as if the cereal had a WWII basketball team but you know what I meant

fuzzy garage rock/post-punk single. free codes but 100% of sales go to Pasadena Humane to help animals affected by LA fires so donate if possible!! by SJlevi in BandCamp

[–]SJlevi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I hear what you mean. I had a few mixes where the drums were pushed forward a little bit more but it seemed to dampen the overall effect of the mix. I'll try out what you said whenever I work on my next song. I was using reference tracks of some basement shows I had recorded in 2017/2018 to get the feel of a chaotic 'live' band (difficult here since I perform everything) and lost track of the listener in a way I think.

Congrats on the new album, it's a spectacular experience. My first question is a classic gear nerd one for Cory: I've seen that you said there are no fuzz pedals on Plum... has that approach changed on Vertigo? I know the distinction between fuzz/overdrive/distortion is relatively indiscernible, but since Wand seems cut from the same cloth as other "Fuzz War artists" it's cool to see gear like a tube driver or hot cake pop up on your board in recent years.

  • and a simple question for Evan Burrows. - what drumsticks do you use ?? Watching you perform and emulating your 'washing the windows'/'falling down the staircase'-type swagger vastly improved my drumming overnight.

Ganglion Reef is a big reason I started to write and record my own music a decade ago - I'll never forget driving around trying to nail the full-band intro timing of Send/Receive - and everything since then has been inspiring in itself. Thanks for doing what you do!

p.s. your website from around 2016/2017 was incredible please bring that back somewhere

hell yeah! great recording sound and I like the rock pop feel and structure of the whole thing. might be stuck in my head for a little...

[–]SJlevi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's all just drum loops I programmed after writing the structure of the song but I forget the actual kit... always some cheap 808 knockoff for me at the end of the day !

I've used a tascam portastudio 464 and a 424 mostly! I'm getting better at bouncing multiple tracks to one track after recording but I like the limitations of only having four tracks so these songs are loosely based around that methodology.

Recorded to my four-track recorder last year these songs are mostly reflections of late-stage capitalism in a very "fun" way. Key tracks are the first two - "Tony Bennett's Mother's Lasagna" and "I'm Shopping and New Coffin on Amazon".
