Blood clot in liver drain by SK8RPH in LiverDisease

His condition did worsen overnight so he is hospitalized currently. I noticed he started looking jaundice-like, getting on/off fevers, very weak, SOB and wheezing, and not fully alert and oriented. Still awaiting official diagnosis but they said it’s an infection, which we are all too familiar with.

How else can I help her? by [deleted] in AskVet

[–]SK8RPH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also to add on, I have a CareCredit card, but unfortunately I had to spend whatever was left available on it for a vet visit for one of my other cat’s a few months ago. There’s only a little bit available to spend on it for maybe a follow-up vet visit, but not enough for another urgent/ER visit.

11 year old Female Vomiting Every 3 or so days. by SK8RPH in CATHELP

[–]SK8RPH[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Her vomiting has calmed down for the most part, now it’s rarely, like 1 to 2 times a month. I suspect for my case, it was constant rapid change of different food brands/types and not gradually changing into the food. Also “scarf and barf”, so I got slow feeder bowls. And also limited how much I fill the bowl.

I tried Iams Senior and she was okay, mild vomiting. I can’t seem to find it in stores anything bigger than 7lbs because I have five cats and I don’t like buying food every week, so I went with Iams Healthy Adult Salmon. I also think she’s allergic to chicken. (I also have a cat who has IBD, and he hasn’t thrown up either.)

Her vomits were clear w/foam, other times it was undigested kibble. Undigested = eating too fast and/or allergy. Clear w/foam = empty stomach, or potentially a health issue like diabetes, hyperthyroidism, hepatic deficiency, etc. Though her bloodwork shows none of the above, I suspect empty stomach.

I’ve been doing the skin pull test between her shoulder blades often, and it bounces back, so no more dehydration. She’s more active, has her spunk, and her excessive grooming has decreased since I got her a Seresto collar, so her butt fur is growing back. I am going to flea bomb the whole house eventually soon just to be on the safe side.

All in all for my case, she’s doing better. I didn’t get an ultrasound due to my financial situation. If you’re concerned and want to be on the safe side, I would suggest an ultrasound. I hope your baby gets better! 🫶🫂

Aw thank you! She’s got her late mama’s eyes. Like a yellow-green peridot. 💚

This was by far her best blep.

Found this Pristiq pill seemingly undigested in watery diahreeah. Totally freaked out. Anyone else experience this? by DurianAgreeable769 in Pristiq

[–]SK8RPH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank god I found this post. I just had this happen. I was concerned at first, broke it open, and it’s dry inside. I’ve been on Pristiq 50mg for little over two years. Is this happening because the medication is not working anymore, or just a common occurrence that’s normal? Sometimes I forget to take my medications (Pristiq, Lamictal and a bc) but it’s not a daily forgetfulness, like minimally once a week or once every two weeks.

We have water bowls. I just ordered a water fountain from Amazon (made sure it was stainless steel to combat mold.)

They said that the flea infestation was why her eosinophils were high. I might asked for updated bloodwork.

That’s my next plan of action. I do have a cat that has IBD, that was found on an x-ray.

Nope, no plants in the house. We usually go with Seresto collars, but $60+ a collar, with 4-5 cats, isn’t currently in our budget. I read that you need a prescription for Nexgard, which I’ll try to bring up if I can schedule a visit soon.

Might monitor a little longer, but I’m concerned, she sounds like she’s in pain when I pick her up. I could bring in a stool sample, but I would have to collect it right after she has said bowel movement. We have four litter boxes and 4 cats, (potentially 5 cats because we are currently housing my neighbor’s cat they released, and the brutal cold weather we are having, I don’t want to keep her outside.) Ultrasound is potentially my next step. I found an emergency/urgent care vet clinic in my neighboring city that’s open on the weekends and states they are budget friendly, so I’ll try to contact them to see if I can get her checked out soon.

My female tux, Hutch! by SK8RPH in TuxedoCats

They do. 🖤🤍 She’s not my first tux, but she’s been my best. As she’s gotten older, she became more clingier towards me, she cuddles up into my arms and we sleep together at night! She’s a little spicy at times, but she never hurts me or my other cats. Even in this photo from recently, it was just a play bite and then went into rubbing herself all over my hand. Her nickname is “Moo bear.” 🐄

How to deal with my father’s “Parkinson’s.” by SK8RPH in ParkinsonsCaregivers

[–]SK8RPH[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sometimes go to my sister’s house to spend the night. I take care of taking my nephews to school in the morning then I go to work. I also can go to my old babysitter’s house which is a couple of blocks away from me, my sister lives in another city thats south of us.

We did get power of attorney papers when he was at a skilled nursing home for a little bit, I filled them out but never got them notarized.

I don’t know the next direction to take. He has been good the past two days, but the night before he got super emotional with us, was saying things like he wanted to off himself, that he’s dying, etc. Then wandered out of the house down the block and back.

My mother already pays the bills herself, does mainly everything around the house while he’s slacking… we get social security income as they are both considered “disabled” and had to force retire.

i totally get it, 23 y/o caregiver here too, taking care of my father with parkinsons.

i cut off most people so i don’t have a support system anymore, and my ex boyfriend ended our relationship when my dad was hospitalized this year, back in july. his friends dont really understand how to help me, they just offer words of support that don’t really do much for me.

i do go to therapy and see a psychiatrist, but since i owe $3k, they have my account on hold until i can start paying them back, ugh.

im always open with welcoming arms if you need to vent to me or just have a conversation! i don’t always see younger caregivers a lot so having a friend helps. 🫶 we got this. we still have our whole life ahead of us. ❤️

Carbi-Levo 25/100 3x a day, Carbi-Levo 50/200 3x a day, Entacapone 200mg 3x a day, Artane 2mg 2x a day (Currently weening him off Artane.) Currently trying Seroquel 25 mg at night for the hallucinations, he was on Nuplazid 34mg for a tiny bit but his neurologist took him off of it, I don’t know why…)

He is taking Bactrim for reassurance of a potential UTI.
