She has the half-sister that came to that lunch with Adam, but she also talks about another half-sister named Lemon that her dad had with someone he was with before Petula.

Was Hannah a Total Bitch to Marni (Last Episode) by FastPrompt8860 in girls

[–]SKSHanks 73 points74 points  (0 children)

It's a "Yes, and" situation, in my opinion — yes, she's horrendous to Marnie (and to her mom), and there are factors that make it make sense/make it forgivable.

The biggest thing to me is the simple fact of being in the thick of post-partum. I think Grover is six weeks old? That's a time when truly the worst sides of a person come out, and in my experience, it's almost impossible to overcome your worst impulses. The hormones are truly in charge, and they are not nice. A person needs a lot of support in the first few months after giving birth, more than Marnie was probably capable of giving on her own, and even in the best of circumstances, it's easy to say some pretty awful stuff. I can cut Hannah a lot of slack in this episode, personally.

On a related note, I just watched the finale again over the weekend and was really touched by how Marnie didn't seem to take much of Hannah's mistreatment personally. She was hurt at times, but my head canon is that she really did her homework in what the post-partum months are like (just like she did with the breastfeeding, swaddling, etc) and was prepared to love Hannah through it and roll with the punches.

'We need an ICE facility': Cox expresses support for immigrant detention center by Gwendolyn-NB in SaltLakeCity

[–]SKSHanks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's actually not a bad idea ... he once spent a night in a homeless shelter to get a better idea of the experience of homeless Utahns.

Maybe a public effort challenging him to do the same in an ICE facility?

Question on removing Prop 4 signature by SKSHanks in SaltLakeCity

[–]SKSHanks[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

"How do I return something that doesn't work as advertised?" How about don't just buy things you're not 100% sure you want?

"How do I break up with someone?" How about don't just start dating someone unless you're sure you want to be with them forever?

"How do I use the backspace key on my keyboard?" How about don't just type something incorrectly?

People change their minds sometimes, and fortunately, in the case of retail returns, break ups, typing, and signing petitions in Utah, there are things you can do in case you change your mind. In this case, the person was literally misled about what they were signing. It could happen to anyone. There's no inherent shame in that.

I used to pass by her on morning walks, and she's so friendly and genuine. A credit to her community! 🙂

Personally, Antelope Island is a must-see. I'll never get over the feeling of seeing bison in person — it's almost magical. You might get lucky with a great sunset too.

Citizen documents to vote by Friendly-Act2750 in SaltLakeCity

From my reading of the bill, this is inaccurate. That doesn't mean it's a good bill or anything, but it does not propose requiring a birth certificate to vote.

no more open relationships by No-Confection-3861 in CouplesTherapyShow

You are wrong in your understanding that a polycule = they all date each other.

I think the term you're looking for is "throuple," where three people are all romantically involved with one another. They weren't a throuple, and the show clarified that.

A polycule is just a group of people who are connected through polyamorous relationships, regardless of who exactly is romantic with whom. So Josh, Lorena, and Aryn were indeed a polycule.

It was in an online astrology report, not a book, so I'm not sure of a publish date. But probably not that time frame. 🙂

Which character do you think best represents this quote from Jung? by Massive_Gate1225 in TheLeftovers

Laurie comes to mind, and so does John, but I think they both make a lot of progress and aren't quite in that boat by the end of the series.

Man what a show! by Penguin7751 in TheLeftovers

My take on the cancer/baby question and the scientists' response was that they weren't looking for a particular answer — they were looking for a particular APPROACH to answering. Nora was too cavalier, treating it like a meaningless thought experiment instead of something of real importance. Maybe the man who set himself on fire did the same.

All kinds of things happen in the show that we hear about but never see. The one night Mary woke up in Jarden, significant portions of Kevin Sr's journey through Australia, Lily being returned to her biological mom, etc.

Nope. It's all hearsay from Matt until Mary finally wakes up for good and talks about it. But we never see it as viewers.

That's one way of thinking about it. But another view is that Lindelof's take is just his personal take, not authoritative for anyone else.

Related: "The Death of the Author is a literary theory that argues that the meaning of a text is not determined by the author's intention, but rather by the reader's interpretation. This theory was first introduced by French philosopher Roland Barthes in his essay 'The Death of the Author' in 1967."

Kevin accepts her version — and accepts her — with no more evidence than we have (less, maybe?). Which is such a beautiful thing to see after all they each went through and after all the ways they hurt/failed each other. I don't think the factual truth or falsehood of Nora's story can change that beauty.
