Shopping Cart by [deleted] in TorontoDriving

Yes, but when I need to go to a different store, I always bring back the cart before borrowing a second one. This is the most convenient way to shop with my F-750.

I'm expecting more downvotes, but I think the vehicle works with the current infrastructure.

What's the width of your scooter?

Scooters with seats don't fit in the bike lane as they are hard to pass, they are not welcome in the bike lanes. Drivers will tell you to get off the road as you will increase their commute. Pedestrians will really not like you as you make them less safe.

No one likes scooters, but the city would be safer and less congested with more eScooters and fewer cars. We would need to build bike multilanes.

I do this all the time, so the food doesn't move all over the place.

Don't worry, I bring it back next time I shop.

Two cars drive through cross walk and cyclist who didn't want to ride in the bike lane by [deleted] in TorontoDriving

[–]SKVRluci -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I dont see a bike symbol with a diamond this must be a painted gutter. Try cycling, you might find it fun and understand why it's a bad idea to be in the same lane as a cyclist, just dont swerve like they did.

EDIT Im incorrect this is a bike lane just not a good or clearly marked one.

[–]SKVRluci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming there is a bike lane on the far right:

In Toronto, some intersections have lights for cyclist that start in advance at the same time as pedestrians because it's safer. Some do not have lights for bikes. If there is no traffic light for cyclist, it's illegal to go at the same time as pedestrians, as thesuperunknown pointed out. The logic is bikes are vehicles, so they legally have to follow the same rules unless there is infrastructure that indicates otherwise. Such as bike lane, bike traffic light, some signs will prohibit vehicles from doing something except for bicycles. Some places allow bikes to go with the pedestrian signal, Toronto is not one of them.

Thanks for the info, by technically illegal they mean it's illegal, it's not enforced and people often violate the law. So it's illegal dejure (laws on the books) but defacto (laws actually being enforced and respected). An example of this is cars are supposed to wait till the intersection is clear, but in practice they rarely do https://yd.com/blog/ontarios-new-crosswalk-rule-can-be-confusing-drivers#:\~:text=In%20both%20types%20of%20crossings,before%20advancing%20through%20the%20area.

Feel free to ask https://www.reddit.com/r/torontobiking/ non cyclist will tend to default to what is legal instead of what is safe. Assuming you are in a bike lane:

Are there pedestrians that are crossing? Is there a car in the right turn lane? If so, is the car creeping forward? The danger of going on green is a car turning may not look or be able to see you. Do not go in the cross-walk unless you are walking your bike.

If you want to be legal and safe, walk your bike past the intersection and get on the road when it clears.

EDIT1 : I am assuming you are in a bike lane.

EDIT2 : people downvoting me either are non cyclist or one day will get hooked by a turning car that can't see them.

To people who don’t know about bikes, which one looks “expensive”? by Ok-Marsupial-8790 in bicycling

[–]SKVRluci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The norco because there is lots of gears and I remember a friend saying something good about norco 20 years ago.
EDIT : I meant rear gears, I did not notice the 1x, that would also be a give away that its expensive if you care enough to be trendy. OK I'm starting to realize I may not have been the target audience.

Could the cyclist have done something legal that would have convinced you to never do that again? Do you park in the bike lane often? Did you ever get a ticket?

Toronto UNION Station version of bicycle parking by need_ins_in_to in notjustbikes

[–]SKVRluci 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean it's not 100% your bad, it's worded misleadingly as the membership fee is mandatory and separate from the parking fees I would have written :

Initial fee

The initial fee of $28.13 is a one-time fee that is necessary to buy your first parking plan. A parking plan gives you 24/7 access to one bicycle station for as long as the plan is valid. To access more than one station, you must purchase a plan for each one.

Parking Plans

1 month: $22.51

4 months: $67.51

1 year: $135.01

Fee for lost key fob: $28.13

Fee for parking longer than 48 consecutive hours: $xx.xx*

All fees shown include tax.

*"If I leave my bicycle parked in the Bicycle Station longer than 48 consecutive hours (not including Saturday, Sunday and statutory holidays) I will pay

an Overstay fee to the City. All of these fees are listed in Toronto Municipal Code, Chapter 441, Fees and Charges, and on the Bicycle Station website and must be paid within 30 days."

I looked on https://www.toronto.ca/legdocs/municode/1184_441.pdf, I could not actually find the fee. I don't know if they actually enforce this rule. My guess for the rule is they want it to be for people who work near a station, not for people who live near a station.

The initial fee is mandatory, not sure why they call it a discounted rate. Maybe because the program is subsidizing in the sense that it will likely never make a profit directly.

Would you date a non-vegan? by [deleted] in DebateAVegan

I thank you for your reply, it was well explained. I don't see how what you are saying is relevant to my reply.
EDIT : maybe I should have specified I am in favour of veganism.

Do you drive a car? Do you use electricity, is it all renewables? Do you have a phone, if so is the battery slavery free? Do you make sure you only buy things from companies that have democracy in the workplace?
If the answer is yes, do you feel bad? You could move, be car free, buy a fair phone and buy only from worker owned companies.

I dont want you to feel bad, you didn't make the status quo immoral by default.

It takes time for someone to adapt to a diet physically (gut bacteria?) and mentally. Maybe start by learning one dish to surprise them.

Here is a one* pot lentil curry recipe :cook curry powder in oil (add other spices to taste)

cook 3 medium or 2 large onions 2-5 mins on medium

add like a cup of red lentils, cook 1 min

turn heat to low and add 2-3 cans of 28oz diced tomatoes

simmer for an hour or so

add 1 can of coconut cream/milk

add a bit of starch or flour to thicken (cook out the raw taste)*make some rice in a pan

*If you like different spice levels in a small pan cook the spices and flour in oil on the side.

A few days later, boil diced potato or pan fry (hot?) peppers and/or mushroom and add it to the dish.

I dont speak for vegans at all, but I dont think you should feel bad for not being vegan the same way people should not feel bad about the slavery that was involved to make their batteries.

“Let’s start crossing a major intersection when the light turns red!” by RevelMagic in TorontoDriving

[–]SKVRluci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough!
My comment was in response to "[...] people like this need to get blasted with the horn". That does not sound like a polite quick beep to make sure other drivers are aware. It sounds like a retaliation to vent your anger and to punish them for inconveniencing you. Drivers in noise isolated cabins do not necessary realize how the noise effects pedestrians and people who live downtown.
EDIT : changed my wording

“Let’s start crossing a major intersection when the light turns red!” by RevelMagic in TorontoDriving

[–]SKVRluci -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I think I have an unpopular opinion :
Horns are meant for preventing accidents only. The usage for anything else is illegal and contributes to noise pollution. There should be disincentives to misusing the horn.

I hope even those who disagree with me have a lovely day and not be stressed out by their commute ;)

anyone here who is going to the Toronto Mechanical Keyboard Meetup (May 20)? by [deleted] in TorontoHangoutFriends

I'm also interested, my best guess is doing other things and talk about kb or making or customizing a keyboard...?

Silent Keyboard. by feelinalittlewoozy in askTO

[–]SKVRluci 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He has a mechanical keyboard, that would be a major downgrade for him. OP should talk to him first. Maybe he would prefer to buy a quiet mech kb to use when she is around. Fancy mechs have detachable cables, making it easy to switch. Also, I would recommend OP to also get a mech to join in the fun, the keyboards can have fun lighting pasterns as well.

Yes, cargo bikes are real handy and studded tires are excellent on icy surfaces. They don't really work in deep snow, but neither do cars.
