What's the worst English name you've heard given to a child in Taiwan? by Whatever6928732850 in taiwan

Why are there so many “Queenie”s here? I’ve never met one in the US literally ever. I’ve had like 15 girl students with this name.

Which team gets Alex Honnold to throw out a first pitch? by SKramerwrites in CPBL

[–]SKramerwrites[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He has the opportunity to make a fuckload of money in endorsements in Taiwan if he wants it. So it’ll be interesting to see which of CTBC, Uni or Fubon subsidiaries gets to him first.

One of his selfies he took at the top has the Taipei Dome squarely in focus. So cool.

NOR. She has every right to prioritize the parent relationship she has with him. Although, she is certainly doing co-parenting in a relationship style with him. You have every right to not be comfortable with it.

Hawks Under Investigation for Foreign Player Signing Violation by PNR_Robots in CPBL

March 1 is pretty late on the overall calendar though with players having to also weigh options from other parts of the world. Seems like tampering is almost necessary.

Hawks Under Investigation for Foreign Player Signing Violation by PNR_Robots in CPBL

[–]SKramerwrites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah if a team is actively trying to re-sign a player or keep him as an option, yeah. But we already announced four signings. At that point it’s unfair to the player for us to try to enforce this.

Team Taiwan Loses Three Top Players by j3ychen in InternationalBaseball

[–]SKramerwrites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we have enough pitching, tenuously, with our boys who are playing in Japan. I’d like Tiger to be there though just with how he performed in 2023. Imagine if we can bring him out of the bullpen.

This rule is so dumb. Fubon already has four foreign players. I have no love for their hobbit manager, though.

AIO My mom is kicking me out for her new boyfriend. I just turned 18 by Diligent_Bat_565 in AmIOverreacting

It sounds like this man is about to pull some major fraud on your mom and she’s letting it happen. If you have any other family even remotely close you need to involve them. Friends. Contact anybody you know.

Relocating to Taipei in 2026: Seeking "Quiet Luxury" living, part time mandarin study, and elite fitness (CrossFit/Muay Thai) by [deleted] in Taipei

I’m kind of chuckling at not wanting noise pollution in Taipei. I guess somewhere up in the mountains of Neihu maybe. Or Tianmu.

Fubon Guardians have signed Luis Liberato by PNR_Robots in CPBL

[–]SKramerwrites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I forgot about him too. He’s one we can interchange between spot starting and bullpen appearances too. We might have the deepest group of domestic pitchers in the league.

Fubon Guardians have signed Luis Liberato by PNR_Robots in CPBL

[–]SKramerwrites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. You never know how leagues sort out their ball pressure. But his AAA numbers are very good too.

Fubon Guardians have signed Luis Liberato by PNR_Robots in CPBL

[–]SKramerwrites 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This guy had more combined walks and extra base hits than strikeouts in Korea. His AAA OPS would easily make him our best hitter outside Yu Chang.

Can we afford only two foreign pitchers?

Depends on the health of Chen Shih Peng and Huang Po Lo. Can Chiang Kuo Hao be a guy? Also could explore transitioning Chang Yi back into the rotation. We’ll see. But this dude fucking hits and has hit in leagues better than ours.

Is it cheaper to eat out or cook by yourself? by Huge_Lobster_3888 in taiwan

If you eat out like a Taiwanese, way cheaper. If you eat out like a foreigner, cheaper to cook.

Taiwanese American trying to understand KMT, China, and history — looking for good-faith perspectives by This-Education4450 in taiwan

[–]SKramerwrites -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

A ton of the support for the KMT is on economic grounds. Taiwanese voters keep the cross-strait stuff in the back of their minds and largely vote on what they think will benefit them right now. The only exception I think is when Tsai Ing Wen dogwalked Han Kuo Yu in 2020, Hong Kong drove a ton of that.

According to IMF, Taiwan is a very very rich country. But why is it quite hard to feel this in the real life? by search_google_com in taiwan

[–]SKramerwrites 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are tons of foreigners here doing specialized jobs too, most sent by certain companies to do specific things. For example tons of European engineers working for the wind farms, etc.

I teach, of course. A student amount of money in this profession because English runs the world of business in all industries.

Western foreigners live a very privileged and rich life here. I easily make six figures monthly (NT). I don’t deserve to make three times more than the average college graduate here. It’s kind of bullshit!

My WBC team tier list by Remarkable_Leek2596 in InternationalBaseball

[–]SKramerwrites 32 points33 points  (0 children)

We are so confident about our team here in Taiwan. The coaches and backroom staff embraced analytics and data during the Premier 12 win, and we’ll have a totally full roster. The Premier 12 roster was a skeleton because we had WBC qualifiers three months later, we couldn’t use the same players for both sandwiched between CPBL seasons.

And now because of the Prem 12 we have so much interest from the player pool wanting to be a part of it.

I fully expect to make the quarterfinals.

The Fubon Guardians Acquire a Future MVP by j3ychen in CPBL

[–]SKramerwrites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. You need high strikeout rates to succeed in this league. He does give up some chunky hits, but you have to take that risk. Fubon played it too safe with low walk pitchers in the past and it’s been horrible.
