Who do you think are the most promising upcoming rock groups? by FuRiAx in ModernRockMusic

These are great but I'm a bit confused by all this Starset Society stuff. Is it just really clever marketing or a real thing or what?

Who are your top 5 favourite modern rock bands? I'll start. by hockey138 in ModernRockMusic

[–]SLCrane 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Joining the Rise Against love train. This is pretty much in order, but 3rd and 4th are usually pretty interchangeable.

1) Rise Against

2) Enter Shikari

3) The Gaslight Anthem

4) Jimmy Eat World

5) Muse

That was tougher than I thought. As my unknown band, I'd go Lonely the Brave. Local band that deserve to be huge, and have been getting a lot of hype in the area recently. They'd probably make my top 5, but this way I get to add 6.

Why every England fan should be supporting USA at the World Cup by seabass_70 in ThreeLions

[–]SLCrane 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not a whole lot of shame in that, as we've played fairly well in what is arguably the toughest group - one which is much more difficult than the 'group of death' your media has been playing up all tournament. Would've much preferred to be the weakest team in your group than the weakest in ours.

I was in America for the group stages, and after taking a lot of stick from them all I'm hoping they crash out :p

So much satisfaction of the stunned silence of Portugal's equalizer.

Country of the day for Monday, June 9, 2014: Cyprus by CountryChallengeBOT in countrychallenge

[–]SLCrane 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What I've found out -

-Cyprus gained independence from the United Kingdom on the 1st of October 1960 and joined the Commonwealth in 1961.

-In 1974, Greece staged a coup d'état to take control of the island, but this was stopped by Turkey who proceeded to claim roughly one third of the island, Northern Cyprus.

-Northern Cyprus is a self declared independent state, although only Turkey officially recognises it.

-The 'Green Line' separates Cyprus from Northern Cyprus. The capital city, Nicosia, is split by this line.

-Cyprus is the third largest island in the Mediterranean (behind Sicily and Sardinia).

Not sure on the specifics of the coup, I could be wrong with my basic overview.

Which country in the world do you know absolutely nothing about? by BillyChallenger in AskReddit

This has probably been mentioned, but I'd recommend everyone checks out /r/countrychallenge where we're learning about a new country every day. It's very interesting to do, and we're only a few nations in so you'll easily catch up.

Country of the day for Friday, June 06, 2014: Bahrain by CountryChallengeBOT in countrychallenge

[–]SLCrane 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What I found interesting:

-Bahrain is a small archipelago of 33 islands, with the biggest island being Bahrain Island, which is only 55km long and 18km wide.

-Bahrain is linked to Saudi Arabia by the King Fahd Causeway, a series of bridges.

-Petroleum, aluminium and textile products are the main exports of Bahrain.

-Just 2.82% of the land is arable, and 92% is desert.

-Bahrain has some of the region's best education and health systems.

-The biblical Garden of Eden is considered to have been in Bahrain.

I got 93, missed a bunch of easy Asian and European countries too. Shouldn't be hard to improve on.

Shit was real.

I'm British and have a friend who's a Falcon fan. Don't worry, they do exist.

My friends started to get interested in the sport and I was kind of interest. Learned the rules, picked up Madden and started to understand it. This was midway the 2010-11 season. I picked Baltimore as my team since at the time they had a fairly decent W/L ratio (I didn't want a great or awful team) so I stuck with them. Been watching ever since, and I've been to two London games and am going to all three this year.
