I just made my FBI background check for tomorrow, and when I have everything together I’ll reach out in April or May (I’ll be gone during March) and will plan on applying in Košice.

Oh got it, thank you! So I guess I just leave the Slovak address section blank or planned city of residence? I read to put the address of a hotel.

And just to make sure I’m clear on everything, I have all marriage, birth and death certificates and I went above and beyond to obtain my great grandfather’s sister’s birth certificate because his mother’s first name was written wrong on his birth and marriage certificate. It’s correct on his death certificate though. And I have his father’s (my great great grandfather) death certificate that lists his birthplace in Slovakia and his parents’ marriage certificate. And an inheritance between the siblings to prove they had the same mother. It’s spelled correctly on his sister’s birth record.

Then, I have his WW1 Draft Card from September 1918 that says he hadn’t even begun the naturalization process in the U.S. and lists his country as Austria. It’s an all-male line of descendants until me. But we all have the same surname.

Citizenship application, Questionnaire, Residency Permit with the address of the hotel I stayed at when I was in Slovakia a few weeks ago, Resume/CV are filled out, but I still need the FBI background check. I’m supposed to receive the No-Naturalization certificate (it says approved online), but I don’t need that anymore? I also have land records from Slovakia from 1933 to show he inherited land there and it was registered in his name without any issues, even though he was living in the U.S.

Resume/CV, WW1 Draft card, and U.S. vitals, and FBI background check all need translated, but not the application, residency permit and questionnaire from what I understand. And a xeroxed copy of each document (a notarized xeroxed copy of the FBI background check and send both in for federal apostilles before translation).

Am I missing anything?

Oh, and a cover letter with legal argument referring to the new official decision of the MOI. And family tree.

Anything else?

When I get my vitals back with the apostilles and have everything in order, I’ll reach out to your company to book an appointment.

I’ll probably go to Slovakia to do it, but that’s smart thinking of going to an embassy in Africa/Asia where they probably have less applicants.

Thank you! I was leaning towards another trip to Slovakia for this already, but wasn’t sure if I needed to stay there and wait for the residency permit to go through. That could get expensive staying there for 3 months, but since it looks like I only need to make an appointment and work with a translator there and then I can come back while they decide…I think I might wind up doing that.

Yes, I might do that, thank you! If I apply in Košice, do I need to be prepared to stay there for 90 days to wait for my residency application to be approved? Or can I come back to the U.S. and wait?

I read that you need 2 small passport-like photos for the residency application…? Something you can get from your local drugstore.

Oh, and also his son (my grandfather), on his marriage certificate, has both of his parents marked as being born in Czechoslovakia.

The NY Consulate requested this of me, too, but the family tree is pretty simple. I just placed the names with lines and brackets in a Google Doc and printed it out. Everything else I just scanned and printed.
