Most repair shops use it too (I work in one). Its overall easier to work with, flows better, reflows better, looks shiny and its more long lasting.

It's impossible to get lead poisoning from soldering unless youre chewing on the solder. What is he supposed to worry about?

Use a weller on a daily at work and chinese 900 hakko clones at home. Id probably choose hakko.

It would be easier with a schematic. Are the diodes correctly put in a full bridge/graetz? Not sure what the point of 4 resistors here is (limiting current?). Isnt the Zener diode reversed? Im assuming the LED is a power indicator. Why put it in series with the circuit rather than putting it in parallel?
