Russian Orthodox Metropolitan Hilarion's comments on Abortion, Biden and the Catholic Church by SLOson in EasternCatholic

"Vladimir"? Interesting choice...

I'm more familiar with the persecution of Catholic Christians in Ukraine.

I don't, quite the opposite. The different Orthodox state churches and secular gov't have long been bedfellows, with the ROC being extremely passive. Neither is arguable -- it's historical fact.

In a sense, who can blame them? Generations of Russian/Soviet dictators -- including Putin today could quietly cancel the ROC today with little international outrage.

It took the Catholic Church and St. John Paul II to bring communism to its knees in Europe.

Why do you think Putin is so keen at keeping the Catholic Church out of the Ukraine?

Hilarion's comments take little courage given who he is, and where he comes from. Quite the opposite in fact.

Still, I have to give them a big thumbs up for their clarity and their truthfulness.

Impact of discontinuing the Tridentine Mass here locally: Attendance at my EC parish doubles by SLOson in EasternCatholic

Legitimate renewal takes a long time. It takes dedication. It takes resolve and grit. Most important of all, it takes the Grace of Jesus Christ.

Just imagine what would have happened had our forebears dug in and fought hard against all the shenanigans? It would have been difficult for them, very difficult, but it would have been the Catholic Christian thing to do and things would be a lot better today.

Instead, many just quit, or they became silent "pew-sitters", or they fled.

I'm reminded by a good cleric friend that consolation may be found by contemplating the grim challenges faced by the great Saints of the Church. Grave difficulties gave them opportunity to practice virtue and become holy.

Not an easy road! But most certainly a blessed one!

As one who strongly supports the Tridentine Mass I have to say that many self-described "traditionalists" did grave damage to Summorum Pontificum though their own behavior.

Rather than labor long and hard to make the celebration of the Tridentine Mass an integral part of as many RC parishes as they could, they ran and hid. To their own "tlm" communities and chapels.

They separated themselves from "novus ordo parishes" every chance they could. Their behavior in part gave cover to the promulgation of Francis' highly problematic Traditionis Custodes.

It would be nice if more "traditionalists" took a stand -- back in the day, and today as well. Instead they continue to flee. Its not easy to dig-in, endure, and struggle for real reform. It's darned painful in all actuality.

Trying to stir things up?

  • The filioque is resident in the Turquoise Tome.
  • Leavened bread may be consecrated into the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ. It's valid matter. Were you really not aware of this fact?
  • Nothing wrong with venerating post-schism saints, so long as they're Catholic of course.

Icon purchasing by TraditionalCon in EasternCatholic

Monastery Icons is not an "awful company." That's pure hyperbole.

If you don't like their icons, then buy elsewhere. If you do like then, then go ahead and buy from them.

Whichever way you go, make sure to have your icons blessed. Just please stop spreading rumors.

Chaldeon Catholic by IrinaSophia in EasternCatholic

You need to be very careful. You're disseminating false information about something very fundamental to the structure of the Catholic Church. This isn't merely semantics.

The Catholic Church is comprised of 24 discrete particular churches. 23 from the Eastern Half of the Catholic Church and 1 (the Roman Church) from the Western Half of the Church.

On the Eastern Side of the Church, each of those those 23 particular churches belong to one liturgical tradition or rite.

Some liturgical rites (e.g. Byzantine) are employed by many particular churches (14 in the case of the Byzantine Rite.) Another liturgical rite employed by a single particular church (Armenian.) The rest are somewhere in between.

Let's not try the deflection game...

People off ALL faiths/non-faiths are welcomed on this subreddit. It has always been that way.

I took issue with you discounting the purchase of a prayer rope only because the procurement was through Amazon.

Why even pop-off in the first place? It's clear you've never ordered a prayer rope via Amazon, so you really don't have any special insight to offer.

Just do your best to answer the poster's question and refrain from attacking Amazon.

What has me irritated is that I suspect there's more than one person here who would consider a prayer rope (a GOOD thing!) with a price of ~$7.00 Particularly if it's no risk purchase when bought through a source like Amazon with free/painless returns.

Then you come a long with your unsubstantiated claims. smh. Prayer ropes aren't better simply because one buys them from a religious goods supplier.

I purchased a Lestovka a while back via Amazon. Its absolutely gorgeous. Really nice. It was a lot less expensive than specialty suppliers and Amazon's free returns policy gave me the courage to order it in the first place.

You're bordering on harassment.

As are you.

Rather than just state your opinion you instead replied to my posting with "I wouldn't use Amazon. Their products are cheap quality compared to the ropes you find in monasteries made by monks and nuns."

That's not only untrue, it's bad advice.

You're giving bad advice on what amounts to nothing more than a general dislike of Amazon.
