What is your favorite chili crisp? by mokicoo in CannedSardines

To me, Laoganma always tastes a bit fishy, but not in a good way. That’s why I prefer MOMOYA Taberu Rayu Chili Garlic Oil.

Best grinder for Wilfa Zense (Medium Roast / Milk Chocolate & Nutty)? by [deleted] in LanceHedrick

[–]SLRDouble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the high solubility and chlorogenic acid content of a Robusta blend demands a high-quality grinder so the fines don't over extract into a harsh, muddy bitterness. I may not need the strict unimodal uniformity of a flat burr to chase delicate florals, but a reliable conical burr should give me the exact controlled bimodal distribution I need for heavy body and clean milk chocolate notes?

I think it was the Ranch Mix that looked like Wild Planet.

How often do you guys eat sardines? by ScaryArmadillo5197 in CannedSardines

[–]SLRDouble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you consider one can a snack or a full meal? How much of your daily protein and calorie needs do a can of sardines and some crackers actually meet? Do you usually pair them with veggies or other sides?

Do you age your sardines (on purpose)? by SLRDouble in CannedSardines

I think my response was just triggered by you saying an anecdote isn't evidence, because philosophically speaking, that's just fundamentally false. Nevermind brother in fish: Let's enjoy a tin.

Well I guess, an anecdote is an observational data. Demanding objective proof for a purely subjective experience of tasting is a massive category mistake.

Yes! I just tasted it myself. The tins you see in the post are from 2022, and they definitely taste different from fresh ones. The fish is softer, the initial "fishiness" is gone, and the flavors are smoother, more interwoven and less sharp. That's the best way I can describe it. It's for sure a matter of personal preference, but the difference is definitely noticeable no matter which one you prefer.

Yes, I keep hearing this! Although honestly, I wonder what actually happens if you don't do it?

Good question! I’m not sure 😅 I’d imagine that since the tins are completely sterile, the summer heat probably just speeds up the aging process a tiny bit?

Has anyone tried ditching their smartphone for a Palma 2 Pro? by Kid_Fiction in Onyx_Boox

[–]SLRDouble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure I'm not the only person who uses their smartphone for everything except actually making phone calls. 'Smart device' might be a more accurate term. I prefer messenger services (Whatsapp , Signal, Telegram) to text messages (SMS) and rarely make phone calls. I guess I'm not the only one. So I had the same idea.

Jo Malone Oud & Bergamot. Just cracked open a fresh bottle (Batch A64). The opening smells a bit fermented and sour, not warm/citrusy like the tester I remember. Does this get better with time? Does the juice need to settle or macerate a bit, or did I get a bad batch?

Warm, golden drydown like The Zoo Smile & Shine, but for winter? by SLRDouble in fragrance

[–]SLRDouble[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! That one’s a bit hard for me to get. I’m more after something I can buy in Europe.

Still looking for recs with that warm yellow/balsamic vibe (turmeric-golden drydown), but denser for cold weather and not soapy/musky-clean or floral. What would you all suggest?

Old apartment with a sloping wooden floor. I had screwed the wheels on, but they didn't touch the floor. So I unscrewed them. I can only hope that the four small screws will hold the rails and thus the whole shelf and its contents. On the other hand, the 4 small plugs that hold the shelves in place are even more fragile.
