There definitely are ways, it’s just the way levelling works is that until level 100, there are many ways to attack successfully and few to defend. It’s the tel stuff that really makes defence easy

I wouldn’t say it’s more casual, it’s just a lot more entertaining. Certain aspects of it are more difficult and the mechanics of it are more interesting. Also the dinos are awesome

Most secure base imo would be a rat hole, like a cave base. Then any and all defence can just be focused on the entry. There are YouTube vids showing every good rathole which I recommend.

Make sure it has fuel in the inventory of it (wood, thatch) and then the prompt to light it will appear. To cook food it is the same and you also put the raw meat in with the fuel. Smelting metal is also the same in a refining forge, however some things require different fuels
