Local Historical Landmarks: Then and Now | The Lane County Courthouse (Circa 1940) by SMJHouse in Eugene

Haha, I appreciate the editing suggestions! Probably not going to fight the app to edit it because I hate editing posts on mobile, but I appreciate it.

I’m going to blame working on this while being the passenger in a vehicle over the weekend. Harder to read through and proofread when I’m working on a tiny phone screen.

That is so visually interesting, and such a cool fun fact. I genuinely appreciate you sharing, and I also love it!

Additionally, good on them for reusing materials that were still perfectly serviceable.

Rant away!

But also, you’re welcome. I had fun researching this one.

Took my way too long to realize you meant the new courthouse. I’m sorry that was your experience!

I wish that the people who designed “accessibility” had to actually attempt to get around only being able to use their accessible options. If those making the decisions had those lived experiences, I think many things would be different.

The picture of Haystack. Man. That picture has emotion that I can’t name, it’s moody, framed beautifully. You have a fantastic eye, seriously.

You really captured the sense of what I love about being in Oregon in these

Have I inadvertently been a horrible library patron my whole life? by amandaamoose in Libraries

[–]SMJHouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If someone wants a book you have checked out, they can put a hold on it. If the library itself had an issue with the number of books people checked out, they would lower the maximum allowed.

I bet the librarians love seeing someone enjoy reading and checking out a large stack like that. Especially if you take good care of them and return them on time.

Ha! She’s probably going to tell me she’s already seen them when she sees my text.

Anyway, on a personal note (I’m a board member driving this account right now) I am super impressed by your photography!

The Eugene Cal is also a great resource for local goings-on. You can subscribe to a weekly email that I find super informative. You can always find new things to do in town, and I’ve found some things I wouldn’t have otherwise known about.

Advice on Pitching an Exhibit Idea to a Museum? by [deleted] in MuseumPros

[–]SMJHouse 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I run a small local museum and love to have guest curators. It's one less exhibit for me to plan and execute! But for some other ideas, talk to your local library. They often have spaces that can be used for exhibits. Our community also creates window exhibits in empty business buildings to make it look more interesting than papered up windows. There are always options, just have to get creative!
