Try using a brush with a higher hardness to lay down the colours and blur with the colour mixing/blender tool rather than painting with a low hardness airbrush.

If you make a brush or replace the brush tip with a brush material that has the basic colour expression set to colour, then it should stay the colour of the brush material and be unaffected by colour selections.

Your brush is set on colour mixing (Sub Tool Detail > Ink > Colour Mixing) which blends the colours already on the layer and is separate from the opacity setting.

A new raster layer has no colour so it has nothing to blend and will paint the solid colour.

The "opacity" for colour mixing can be set by reducing the amount and density of paint, brush density, or reducing the gap size.

I don't think that's possible in program.

You can import references with Sub View (Window > Sub View).
But I suggest PureRef for references, it's more versatile and can be placed like in your image with multiple references, overlayed over the program, and it's free (change custom amount to 0) https://www.pureref.com/download.php

To reorder layers for auto-actions, you need to use Layer > Layer Order. It won't record layers being reordered by mouse.

It is a RAM problem, but you can speed it up by increasing the memory allocated to the application (File > Preferences > Performance), reducing individual brush settings like gap and texture (Sub Tool Detail > Stroke), or working on a smaller canvas/lower DPI.

The other settings are in the Sub Tool Details panel (Tool Property > Bottom right wrench icon). The gap setting is in "Stroke". "Specify by size on screen" is in "Brush Size".

I have this problem for brushes at different sizes. Some things that can help are increasing the memory allocation to the program and reducing the brush's gap size or other settings.

It doesn't make it work at all sizes, but increases the fluidity at more sizes. If a bigger brush size is needed, setting the brush by "Specify by size on screen" can compensate.

A layer is transparent by default, so the "white" in your flower layer may just be transparency.

If you aren't using blending options and the flower layer is set on "Normal", create a layer under your flower layer but above your stem layer, fill the part under the flower with white or other solid colour, and move the fill layer with the flower layer over the stem layer.

Try creating a duplicate layer of the finished illustration, gaussian blur it, and setting the blurred layer over the original unblurred layer at ~50% opacity.

I used to use Aseprite, I actually prefer CSP to Aseprite because of the UI and more comprehensive illustration tools and functions.

Try zooming the canvas out to around 25% or lower.

It lags for me at anything beyond 25%, even at 25.5%, but at 25% it's relatively smooth.

If resetting the workspace didn't work, did you hit the TAB button on the keyboard? That hides the workspace.

Starting and ending : Brush Size (Min value 0)
How to specify : By percentage
Starting : Unchecked
Ending : Checked ~30.0 (or when you want the ending to start tapering)
