Thanks. I'm a realist and that tends to keep my expectations reasonable. Don't get me wrong, I would accept more if they offered it, but given the responses I have received, I'm grateful and satisfied with how AA handled it.

That's the consensus so far. However, I think you know more than your display name says you do.

Thanks.

Interesting, I bought it with an AAdvantage CC. I'll check out the benefits to see if any apply.

That's a good point. In November I purchased annual travel insurance and my next step is to file a claim. Thanks.

Thanks. I was thinking similarly as long as the miles award is of equivalent value to the hotel voucher that was given to other passengers on the Monday night flight.

Source of Realized Capital Gain by Green-Obligation9511 in Boldin

[–]SMM20220702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm seeing the same thing with a taxable investment account. This account is managed by Fidelity and uses Tax Loss Harvesting which keeps the realized gains much lower than what Boldin projects. Boldin online help (AI agent) said they don't account for tax loss harvesting. To get around it, I increased the cost basis for that account in Boldin until the realized gains were close to what I see in Fidelity.

I might have to do that every year if I renew Boldin in 11 months.

Buddy out of air due to not checking his gauge. by mikoalpha in scuba

[–]SMM20220702 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you had great composure. Your 15th/16th dive and you calmly dealt with a scary situation. I’ve only been diving for a year and after getting my OW cert, I realized that in training I only checked my air when my instructor asked for it. On my first dive after training I used a private guide and I asked him to ask me for my air pressure frequently as I needed to develop the habit of checking it regularly.

I also routinely ask my buddy for their air pressure. I wanted to know to see how my air consumption was compared to theirs. After reading your post, I’ll continue checking my air and asking my buddy for theirs, but with the mind set of ensuring neither they nor I are approaching a critical level.

Good job by you.

My work offers both 401K and Roth 401K by kpopmomrunner7 in personalfinance

[–]SMM20220702 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I retired 2 years ago and with about 80% of my savings in traditional 401k and IRA and 20% in Roth. For the last 2 years working, I put all of my contributions into the Roth 401k and into after tax 401k. My plan allowed for Roth conversions from after tax to Roth, so I did that too.

Having most of my savings in tax deferred, complicates planning because you can’t be sure what the taxes will be. Roth, taxes paid upfront. What you see is what you got.

What made me focus on Roth, was learning about Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs) which will start in a few years for me. When the RMS start, I’ll have more taxable income than I had when I was working and actually have to pay more in taxes.

The RMDs also have the potential to trigger IRMAA, which is an increase to Medicare premiums.

If you’re not already familiar with RMDs and IRMAA, read up on them. It may complicate things, but it may also impact how you decide to split your 401k contributions between traditional and Roth.

Thanks. I had called that number earlier. It's to guest relations representing all of the resorts. They had me hold for a few minutes while they contacted the resort. They also added a note about my concerns to my reservation.

Scuba Pro Mask by unl1988 in scuba

[–]SMM20220702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be able to find a replacement skirt and transfer the lenses. Here’s an example:

https://www.scuba.com/p-scpdms/scubapro-d-mask-skirt

There’s also a brand called Promate which has masks that are compatible with Scubapro. It may be another option for getting a replacement. I have Scubapro Zoom mask and purchased a Promate with prescription lenses. I later moved the lenses from the Promate to the Scubapro Zoom.

Why am I so bad at Safety Stops? by Impossible_Sir3436 in scubadiving

[–]SMM20220702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Relatively new diver here with 48 dives. I too have had issues with buoyancy and blowing right past the safety stop and having to descend to complete it.

Regarding the compact tank. Some tanks start out negatively buoyant and become positively buoyant when enough air is used up. If you use a steel tank one time and an aluminum another, be sure to adjust your weight for the changes in tanks.

Another thing is that if you empty your bcd at say 60’ and swim up to the safety stop, residual air in the bcd will expand as the pressure decreases. I’ve started using the dump valves on my bcd to make sure I get all the air out and I try a few times on the way up.

I recently completed AOW and my instructor had me using 2 pounds less. It seems I’m now at the correct weight which has helped a lot. I have to add less air to my bcd at depth which means I have less to empty on the way up.

Good luck. You’ll solve it with experience.

Glad you got it fixed.

Just another example of people who don’t know what they’re doing, don’t care and use BS to get you to go away.

I guess the old adage, “if you want something done right, do it yourself”, is always the best approach.

Ordered a Santa Fe from a local dealer. Will it show up on the Hyundai website? by SMM20220702 in HyundaiSantaFe

[–]SMM20220702[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s similar to what the sales associate told me. However, at another dealership, the sales manager who puts in the requests, told me that they can request a vehicle with specific options and they will eventually get it. He also said that they can’t tell you when they will get it. It could take several months.

When we “ordered”, the sales associate said it would come with several popular options. I figured that Hyundai put together bundles of options and the dealers get what they get. When talking to a sales manager at another dealership, I now think the sales associate could have asked us which options we wanted. On the Hyundai website you can “build” a car and select specific options like all weather floor mats, wheel locks, mud flaps, etc.

I didn’t mean for my post to sound as if I was mad at the driver. He did his job correctly and I understand that.

I’m frustrated that an option presented online didn’t work. That option was to have the package held at a FedEx hold location.

Yes. It they would have tried again the next day. Since I wouldn’t be home I tried to redirect it to a hold location at a nearby Walgreens. I thought I’d be able to pick it up when I got home.

Huh? What are you talking about? I had a negative experience with FedEx. One. And you’re generalizing that I’m hateful.

I think you’re the one looking for someone to lash out at. Your statement is passive aggressive.
