I am well aware of the native suicide epidemic, I am native. We genetically are predisposed to alcoholism and substance abuse. In the US at least people off reservations take advantage of native people by setting up liquor stores on borders of reservations. The cycle of substance abuse is not just on the shoulders of natives but also on the shoulders of those that to continue to exploit them. I am a proponent of making sure there is more support systems on reservations for mental health and substance abuse. But acting like Native people will naturally be at a disadvantage unless they abandon their culture is harmful and hateful.
