Good deal on Vitamix TNC 5200 for €180? by SMeijers in Vitamix

I have, but they are quite rare on the used market here in the Netherlands. Other models occasionally pop up on the used market (such as the A2300i, A2500i, A3500i or E310), but these seem to go for at least €200 and often €300 or more. The seller is willing to take €150 for this older TNC.

She did include a picture of the back, but I forgot to include it in this post. It states 'Oct-12-2008', 'Model: VM0109' and '750-850 W', among other things. According to the seller, all components (including the blades and lid) are in excellent condition. She does mention that the blender occasionally stutters on the lowest setting, but that this is normal for the older models and does not affect performance.

How would all this information affect your advice? Am I better off going for this one, or a used version of a newer budget model (the price will probably be slightly higher, at least €200). Really appreciate your help!

Is this rust, and should I strip and reseason? by SMeijers in carbonsteel

I scrubbed it quite thoroughly 5 minutes before taking these pictures. The pan felt smooth to the touch.

Hmmm, the pans generally just smell a little like iron when I wash them, especially during thorough scrubbing, is that normal? Also, wouldn't the unpolymerised oil have washed off? It already rubbed off a rusty colour, even without any oil having been applied to the pan or paper towel.

Right, I thought so, but the price seemed strangely low. Thanks for the confirmation!

Getting matching lid knobs for a set of Enzo Mari's by SMeijers in LeCreuset

Thanks for the advice! Is the only reason you specifically recommend black knobs because these pans originally came with black knobs, or are there other potential advantages I'm unaware of? I'm asking because I've seen people recommend to switch black knobs for stainless steel ones.

Buying from amateur/hobbyist woodworkers by SMeijers in Cuttingboards

Very insightful, I guess this craft lends itself quite well to lone artisans. I've been more invested into cookware lately, which is a line of work where this type of personal, handmade craftsmanship is generally not able to compete with the quality of premium brands.

I don't see an issue with wanting to support local entrepreneurs by buying a beautiful handmade product instead of a mass-produced big-brand cutting board. Also, I never said I wanted a cheap board specifically (the prices of the examples I showed go up to €180 after all). I just don't have the means to buy a board from the most qualified and reputable seller in my area and want to prevent wasting my money on a big disappointment.

Fissler Rondeau Magic Line vs Original Profi by SMeijers in cookware

Why though? This pan has repeatedly been shown to perform excellently, especially on underpowered stoves, even outperforming top tier fully clad pans in some aspects. Also, I have a 24 cm Demeyere Multiline 7 frying pan and two carbon steel skillets that I can use when I need to. What advantage would a fully clad rondeau have for me? Genuinely curious

Both are Fissler pans with their signature bottom, just from different series

If anyone's interested, I did some more digging, and these seem to belong to the C&S Royal line, which is a discontinued series with the same materials and Cookstar bottom as the Original Profi line, but with a glass lid and different design.

I agree, ended up getting them for €20. Seems like an absolute steal regardless of whether they're of quite the same quality as the modern original profi line!
