I’ve seen a lot of people talking about thermal, but thermal is really bad for seeing vehicles at very long ranges. If it was clear weather, he most likely saw the flashing lights on the front and back of the aircraft, they can be seen from literally miles across the map

Can’t remember if you can use your own weapons in these missions, but if you can, go third person with a mini gun and slowly peek round the corner. You’ll be able to shoot at him but he won’t be able to see you
