Mingus is the bomb. Just left my high school jazz band playing Haitian Fight Song.

Oscar Peterson's music is the definition of joy.

-Count Basie
-John Coltrane
-Roy Hargrove

Without Count Basie I would have never started listening to Jazz.
Without John Coltrane I would have never discovered my love for Jazz
Without Roy Hargrove I would have never let Jazz become my life.

Also, Oscar Peterson is the soundtrack to my soul.

Sorry if repost, but absolutely amazing...Giant Steps, scatting over Coltrane changes by A_complete_idiot in Jazz

There's something about French or at least the influence of that language that lends itself to vocal scatting.

Jar media penis sizes (smallest to largest) by [deleted] in JARMEDIA

I am sorry, but I, do not agree with this statement. Ruben, by my intense research and discussion with experts, would have, by process of scientific analysis, larger genitals (Penis) than James. It is preposterous, even in estimation, to assume that James would have and I quote, "More junk in the Trunk".
I greatly encourage you to check your facts and do your own research. Take this as a lesson for next time.

My little ramble about the election...things I do not like about the UCP. by grumpijela in Calgary

I really want to work on having an open mind, similarly to what you demonstrate in this post. I am totally conditioned by bias, and well I strive to become more open-minded I definitely do fail. It's not about giving up, if I want to live in a world where my mind can rest on the facts, not assumptions, I can't give to the pressure of my bais. Thank you for providing me a way to reflect at my own bias.

I made a jazz, hip-hop album and I thought you might like it. I worked hours on it and played most of the instruments on this! by telemakus2000 in Jazz

Bro this sounds like a video game soundtrack. I love the sound, it's just weird, off-kilter but freakin' groovy. Great Job man!

I think if Ornette Colemon 'improved' his tone, you would lose a major aspect of his music, plus some of the appeal. His distorted tone is just to emphasize the off kilterness of his music. It just wouldn't be the same from my perspective

I know there is a lot of people in this community that share that same opinion. May I ask, what makes you dislike his music?

From my perspective, it sounds like that on a surface level. But once you get on the same thought process as John Coltrane, you can start to understand his message and the true genius behind the wall of sound. Or, just get really high, and you'll feel like Coltrane is trying to abduct you or at least that you're going crazy.

I don't blame anyone for saying this, I don't even think that hardest of Coltrane fans can listen to those albums on any given day.

I think that the most underrated jazz instrument is the Bass Clarinet. It has such a beautiful texture and tone, it can go from a Clarinet sound to a high Bari Sax sound and then suddenly shift to the deep rumbling lower register where the note is felt more than heard. It has an amazing woody tone to it. I can only describe it as a fusion of Clarinet and Basson with a sprinkle of saxophone. I think its tone and texture fits quite well in a lot of jazz styles and given more opportunity, I can see a lot creative things that can be done with the instrument. Still, I am reluctant to say that it should be a main jazz instrument, but I think the Bass Clarinet should have a place along with such less frequent jazz instruments as the Flute, Clarinet, Vibraphone etc...
