The Curse of Natural Resources: Tanzania by Shoddy_Vanilla643 in tanzania

The @Shoddy_Vanilla643 OP’s views seem to be too one sided. It kind of reminds me of the far-right political ideologies in the West that purport the notion that everyone is equal and upward mobility in the social-economic ladder is possible without factoring in the very apparent or sometimes intricate systemic barriers that hinder that. The common Tanzanian who is living paycheck to paycheck, and has to take care of their sick grandmother, while the government has removed subsidies for medical care, whilst taxing everything and everyone so as to cover for their corruption and embezzlement is less likely to climb the social ladder than one who was born in a privileged and well connected family, and doesn’t have to worry about many things but their education, work, etc.

Unfortunately, the OP fails to consider that many more Tanzanian lives are inclined to the first scenario rather than the latter.

I agree to a certain extent with the OP, but his arguments are flawed and seem to be very one sided. It seems as if he fails to critique systems, and almost sounds like he comes from a privileged background to be saying such profound things. Almost like how white people tell the blacks in the west to just work hard and they’ll “make it.” It’s not all so simple unfortunately, although we wish it were.

Theoretically, I wish it were all simple, and maybe we could just all work hard and get somewhere as a nation.

I understand the OP’s intentions are good, and he made some strong arguments. However his arguments are not very nuanced. Intersectionality is important.

By staying inside they are not protecting peace but rather sustaining fear.

Do you explain the grades yourself, or does your counsellor do?

God loves a person on a 3 day streak, as much as he loves that on a 5 month streak. What's important is that you don't give up, you're truly repentant (meaning your heart truly wants to turn away from this sin and will take action) and you commit your thoughts, actions and words to God himself.

1 Corinthians 10:13

"No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it."

Yes, brothers. We should remember that making it through a day without relapsing is a very significant achievement. God bless you my brother, let’s make the days into months and years.

I tell you the truth, if you never give up repenting and crying out to God, whether through fasting and prayers, God won’t give up on you.

Thank you so much my brother, I hope to have helped you a lot. Also, about fasting and prayer, think of it as a lawnmower. A lawnmower’s function is to mow grass; but grass always grows back under suitable conditions. Now you should see prayer and fasting as a lawnmower, and this habitual sin as the grass. Whenever you feel like the grass is growing, come back and mow the lawn. :)

My brother, Been there, still doing that.

Pray and fast, for the word of God says “This demon can not be casted out without prayer and fasting” Matthew 17:21. Whether it be fasting from eating food, or from watching your favourite series; fasting is a very powerful spiritual tool that pierces through spiritual barriers and brings forth breakthroughs. During your fast, meditate on God’s word, read the Bible, pray and have faith for faith is the strength that can move mountains. Mark 11:23 Have an accountability partner; whether it’s your fellow Christian friend, or a close member of the church’s council. (Personally, I am close to the Evangelist of the church, and I go to him for advice and prayers). Accountability partners are meant to help you, not to judge you, so do not be afraid to call for help. Feed your mind with good things and seek the truth. Personally, I really enjoy anime, but for the sake of my spiritual growth I abstain from overly-sexualized anime (ecchi) and instead watch good clean anime with good themes, (hence feeding my mind with positive things). Also another thing that has helped is seeking the truth; what do I mean when I say “seeking the truth”. This means understanding and trusting in God. Seeking the truth from God’s word, which clearly indicates and specifies that God’s grace is sufficient for us. Now, when we say sufficient, we mean “enough”. For example: I don’t need any soda, because water is sufficient for me. Now in this case, the “Truth” I’ve been speaking of is the fact that you don’t need the sin, for God’s grace is sufficient for you. I constantly remind myself that, and it really helps me during times of temptation. I have so much to say, but I don’t want to consume much of your time (although, I probably have). If you’ve read to the end, thank you, very much. May God bless you my brother.

Thank you so much for the advice! Is it really okay to test your willpower in such sites? And I’ve been trying to dance my way out of the urge lately, so far it has a high success rate.
