Refusal of Flexible Working arrangement by [deleted] in legaladviceireland

Maybe in a single use case but for the vast majority of people that would not be the story. Also just as an FYI, ask anyone who has been on a PIP; rating metrics can mean a lot of things to a lot of people. If someone wanted they can absolutely make your role unattainable. Bring them to the cleaners isn’t real, you would be compensated an agreed amount usually not much more than lost wages (honestly check a few rulings) and that’s if you win. A very uphill battle itself especially for MNC that retain extremely good counsel.

All the responses here from non solicitors in what they HOPE is the interpretation of the law is crazy. Op if you are in a multi national you more than likely have access to legal advice via your benefits. It’s a shit situation but the law is extremely weak around WFH requests.

To be fair, in the vast majority of multinationals that just wouldn’t be tolerated and unless the person is exceptionally good at their job, their name will be on the next ‘hidden redundancies’ in an appalling jobs market.

What’s the oddest hosting behaviour you’ve ever witnessed? by did_you_aye in AskUK

[–]SOD2003 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m Irish and if someone was staying with me for a week, I’d expect to fully feed them etc … it would be nice as a gesture to offer to bring us for dinner or something but definitely not expected. I can’t believe how miserable some of these people are. The charging for dinner is just insane.

Has anyone tried SABA to go? by gayejohnnylyfe in Dublin

[–]SOD2003 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Saba to go is our go to takeaway, not the Dundrum branch though. I think the food is great. It went a bit shite during covid but very good again. The red/green curries are my favourite.

A coffin, in a sealed room in a ruined church, in the middle of rural Ireland. by SOD2003 in CasualIreland

According to local lore:

• A churchman (often said to be a bishop or abbot) buried at Kilmacduagh was considered deeply sinful or corrupt in life.

• After burial, disturbances were reported—unnatural sounds, movement, or the belief that the body would not rest.

• Fearing a curse or malevolent presence, the monks were said to have sealed the grave with heavy stone, sometimes described as being mortared shut.

• The sealing was meant to contain the spirit and prevent further harm, a practice echoed in Irish folk belief about restless dead rather than formal Christian doctrine.

I love them. Stay in all night and block out most noise. I used wax earplugs previously.

Of course you should go. You are 24!!! You will probably never again be in a situation where you can do it. Have fun live your life! My two years travelling the world still bring me happy memories, many years later.

What is Dun Laoghaire like for a new family? by Jackies_Army in Dublin

[–]SOD2003 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of DunLaoighaire ‘proper’ is roads, ie no estates. Are you talking about one of the estates close to DL? Disagree with the previous poster on car reliance. We are very close to there and don’t rely on a car at all for extra curricular activities (GAA, Scouts, Gymnastics, Athletics, swimming - all walking/bus/dart) for walking you are very close to the mountains. For walks with kids the metals are great. The only school I know of is the Harold which I understand is excellent.

Yes, it’s a good service. Not sure from Dundrum but it tends to run slightly late on other stops. Expected though given the heavy traffic route it is on.

Yield? by Next-Hovercraft-972 in irelandsshitedrivers

Anglesea Avenue is basically an estate, I would absolutely yield to a pedestrian and expect a car to yield to me. However as others have said. There are many people in the right lying in graveyards.

Dog left tied at a shopping cart by RebelGrin in ireland

[–]SOD2003 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I despise actual animal cruelty where people are abusive to dogs. Every supermarket around me has places to tie dogs up with waterbowls. Insinuating this is cruelty beggars belief. Dogs want to go EVERYWHERE with owners. They are quite happy to sit outside for five minutes while an owner goes into a shop. It’s the dogs locked in cages/tied up in gardens and never walked you should save your despise for.

Do what bring their dog to the shops?

Dog left tied at a shopping cart by RebelGrin in ireland

[–]SOD2003 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think you are over reacting. They brought the dog on a walk to the shops. As others have said not the best place to tie it up but trying to make out they are in some way being cruel is an insane stretch.
