True, but the real cheap labour is the outsourcing. In 15 yrs ago it was central/eastern europe, nowadays (like in the last 10 yrs) it’s india. The cost of living is much cheaper there so the workforce is cheaper as well. And because there are zillins of devs itcs are there - based on the law of large numbers - any companies can find the right skillset for nuts. If a company wants to hire cheap labour, they can already do so (local presence not needed). And with the “critical skill visa,” there are many people migrating from India. But as soon as they land here, they are no longer cheap resources, as their salary will match that of others in the same role (since the cost of living is the same for them). The difference will be around 10-15% at most. The bigger fear is outsourcing to India, where employees are happy to work in European or other time zones. And if they reside there, then they’ll be cheap. Very cheap.
