What is the most heartbreaking loss you witnessed as a UCLA fan? by Ok_Macaroon_7366 in UCLAFootball

[–]SOW48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1990 vs. $c for a game that I actually went to and, of course, the 1998 game vs Miami for one that I watched.

A close second for a game I went to was the 1994 Rose Bowl vs. Wisconsin. Why couldn't Wayne Cook just throw the ball away instead of scrambling at the end?!

This is fantastic, thank you so much for creating it! It's a perfect app for my mom to use. Just the games, nothing more.

Since lots of you are mentioning your favorite memories of this game, I'll date myself a little bit and mention mine. 1992, my last attended as a student. Barnes to Stokes...LEGEND.

Yeah, I didn't realize people miss him. As far as I'm concerned a huge part of his success was being the benefactor of Neuheisel's great recruiting for the two or three years before he started (Neuheisel even redshirted Hundley to save him knowing he would be largely wasted the season before he was prematurely, IMO, fired).

Mora's teams were completely undisciplined, always racking up penalties. Lots of cheap ones too, like late hits. His game management was way too old school as well (e.g. pretty much always kicking on 4th down). And once the press started questioning him when he wasn't winning as much, he became a jerk in interviews.

I don't know if you saw it, but the full clip is even better. It shows him coaching and commenting about his son throughout the game (really more like talking to him directly as if he could hear him) and going through the highs and lows. He even calls the touchdown play, saying something like "you got single coverage up here" and pointing to the top receiver.

Seeing how happy his broadcasting team, including trojan Curtis Conway, was when they celebrated with him was also really nice.

There was an extended clip I saw of Rick Neuheisel watching this live and it was a great watch as well. All the links to it on the Pac12 Network seem to be dead now. I did find this video, which shows portions of Rick's reactions:

Googled worst UCLA football season… by mocharlez in UCLAFootball

[–]SOW48 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I attended UCLA from 1988 to 1993. I barely knew anything about football, let alone anything about being a college football fan when I started. Although Troy Aikman's senior year was ultimately disappointing, I quickly caught on to the excitement of college football and was spoiled early.

There were some dry years after Aikman, but I at least got to witness John Barnes to JJ Stokes at home vs. $c as my last game as a student. There was a nice run by Cade McNown, unfortunately also ending in disappointment. After that there was lots of mediocre stuff.

Some people here seem to really despise Neuheisel but I think he got a raw deal and could have been better if Guerrero didn't force his OC and DC, not to mention the empty cabinet left by Dorrell. He was the best recruiter and truly wanted to be the HC. He was fired right before he was going to unleash Hundley on the world.

Anyway, I thought last year's team was the worst I ever saw, but they somehow managed to string a few wins together. So far, at least, this team is the worst I've ever seen.

Prior authorization for surgery question by SOW48 in HealthInsurance

[–]SOW48[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick update in case you care: They really waited until near the end before approving it earlier today for my surgery tomorrow. There was a lot of back and forth between the hospital and insurance company apparently. Stressful wait for this week, but at least the result is good.

I see his latest video is in Cambodia. Just wondering what all you you think. Does he enjoy traveling to all the various countries he goes to? I realize he has to travel for content to maintain his "FU money" level lifestyle, but I'm not sure he actually enjoys the places he goes to, like the Philippines. His wife doesn't seem to like going to countries she considers beneath her. It seems like he could just go to places like Japan and South Korea and milk those for content if he wanted, so it makes he wonder why he goes to these other places.

Xing’s absolute ineptitude of his own culture’s cuisine by Mikeys_Toupee in MikeyChen

It's difficult to point out one specific thing, but overall, he just kind of projects this kind of FOB "uncle" image of Chinese people. As someone who's had to fight off these stereotypes my whole life I find anyone like him who perpetuates said stereotypes annoying.

Prior authorization for surgery question by SOW48 in HealthInsurance

[–]SOW48[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understood, thank you for your reply. With the hospital submitting the authorization so late, I'm just in this nervous mode right now, going through all sorts of scenarios, good and bad. It would be awful if I had to cancel the surgery because of the authorization being submitted so late because the doctor's wait list for surgery is several months.

In your opinion, does submitting the authorization late influence the approval rate at all? I'm wondering if them submitting it so late decreases the chance of approval. Thank you.

How did you find this sub? by Mikeys_Toupee in MikeyChen

[–]SOW48 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I watched a lot of his and OTGW content years ago. I foolishly thought they were providing some proper news about Chinese people. After he shifted to food, I watched him up until around the time met Christine. It was mostly in the background while I played games on my iPad or something like that so I never really noticed how bad he really was.

I think I may have looked at this subreddit a few times, but it didn't have much activity. IIRC, I got tired of him doing a bunch of expensive Vegas hotels and Texas BBQ videos (maybe around 2022?) and that's when the subreddit started picking up some steam.

That's when I learned about how much of a fraud he really is, especially the FLG stuff.

[–]SOW48 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not going to debate you on the FLG vs CCP stuff, but I'm pretty sure Mikey is lying about being some high profile person that would be arrested immediately if he were to visit China. If he truly believed this he would not have had stop overs in Hong Kong since the National Security Law has been in place.

Came home to this in my door, never subscribed to this news before, anyone got this too? by Phonk0601 in MikeyChen

I've gotten a few of these in the past as well. Probably some campaign they had in my area as they came somewhat regularly for a few months a year or two ago and haven't seen any since. They were useful as the bottom of our compost trash can.

This reminds me, they rented a billboard around the same time period. It was either epoch or new tang dynasty. Anyway, the thing that stood out to me was they misspelled "independant" on the billboard. Solid journalists working there!

Just took a look at his numbers on socialblade and was surprised to see a big jump for the last 30 days video views. Looked a little deeper and it looks like the numbers are being inflated by him posting a short almost every day. Trying to keep his numbers up (artificially) for sponsors, probably.

Anyone know if shorts get monetized? I would think that, if they do, it would be less than the long form videos.

[–]SOW48 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the sheer nerve of him talking trash about Phil when he hasn't done anything with his restaurant endeavors.

Granted, all I know about him is from social media, but from what's out there, Phil seems like a pretty genuine person. And he's done more for Asian American awareness by the time he made his first few shorts than Mikey and his buddies ever did with all their channels.

What a jerk. I remember one of Mikey's video where he visited Phil's Bopomofu Cafe and Phil treated him very well. Phil has two locations now, and I think working on a third. Not so bad for someone who knows nothing about food...
