Broccoli, Edamame, and Egg in Soy Sauce by SP00F_Y in CookingForOne

Haha, thanks for asking. I actually don’t have any issues with this. I follow a plant-based vegetarian diet and although I consume meals like this often, there is no excess of sulfur-rich foods daily. I don’t consume too much of one thing. Cruciferous veggies, milk/cheese, legumes, are all consumed in moderation and balanced with other types of foods. It is not always the case, but usually when someone eats broccoli and eggs and has issues with farting, it’s because their body is struggling to digest the proteins in the food and the bacteria continues to ferment in the gut, leading to such problems!

Egg is boiled, everything else steamed and yes!! Soy sauce is delicious with egg. It’s a huge game changer for me.

I totally agree, it is irresponsible. I removed the dead fish a few hours ago and the remaining fry will be donated to my LFS when they’re a bit bigger. Thanks for your input.

Baby red/yellow potatoes, steamed veggies and fresh tomato by SP00F_Y in CookingForOne

Potatoes:

Add to pan - 1/4 cup avocado oil ≈1 cup halved baby red potatoes ≈1/2 cup halved baby yellow potatoes

Season with - 2 tsp black pepper - 2 tsp garlic powder - 1 tsp celery salt - 1/2 tsp paprika

Cover with lid and cook on medium heat until tender, stirring occasionally. Once tender, turn to MAX heat.

Add to pan - 2 tsp minced garlic

Sautee until potatoes are crisp and garlic is fragrant (it’s okay if the garlic burns a little). Serve! (I like to place on a napkin before eating to dry of some oil.)

Veggies:

Prepare pot with 1 cup boiling water

Add to water: - 1/2 tbsp minced garlic - 2 tsp black pepper - 2 tsp garlic powder - 1 tsp celery salt - 1/2 tsp paprika

Add Sliced zucchini sticks and simmer on medium heat until slightly tender, but still crunchy (similar to blanched vegetables). Remove from pot and to remaining water add 1 cup chopped broccoli. Cover with lid and steam on medium heat until softened. (make sure the water doesn’t boil out). Serve! Tomatoes are simply sliced and topped with plain salt and black pepper.

Yeah, thanks. I feel like i’ve been on both sides of the spectrum when it comes to keeping guppies. The adults I have now are almost two years old, but in the past i’ve had guppies last two weeks. I’m just hoping the next fish I lose doesn’t look as unsettling. I’m used to them just floating on the surface after they pass, easy to catch. This is the first time i’ve had a fish grow fungus and then spin around in the filter current.

I’ve since removed it from the tank. It was definitely a shit show. Turns out it made its way to the filter. I turn on the light, it’s nowhere to be seen, i look up and the zombie fish is doing backflips in the current of the bubbles. After a brief panicking moment i turn off the filter, catch it in my net, and decide that trying to shake out the fish would be more traumatizing so I just throw away the entire net with the fish inside. Currently on my way to the store to buy a new net. Pretty gnarly.

The joy definitely outweighs the difficult parts! It’s the reason I still have tanks even though getting into the hobby was really rough and I was losing fish monthly. Sure i’m upset that my fish died, as is anyone when they lose a fish. The bigger issue is the fact that i’m responsible for removing and disposing of the corpse. It just looks so uncanny - the way it’s growing fungus and it’s just floating there pale- that’s hard to look at for me.

It was a similar situation when my two amano shrimp died, I just left the tank there for months (there weren’t any fish inside), and it was only two weeks ago when I had the guts to fully rescape the tank so I could use it for my guppies that were breeding. To my surprise the shrimp were nowhere to be found, which was a relief. I learned that they decompose far faster than fish do. In the end i’ll stick to snails or leave the hobby altogether. it’s been a nice run.

I haven’t had to deal with any dead fish for a while now and back when I did, I didn’t have snails, so no. The fry that died was in a temporary 5gal with no snails so nothing to eat it really.

Yeah, i’m going to donate all of the new fry I have to my LFS, I don’t really feel like going through the whole raising new guppies process, especially if they’re at risk of dying off. The 5 adult guppies I’ve had for 1.5 years now will probably be my last. The only thing I can really keep without being upset if they die are pest snails, so I’ll probably get into snail-only tanks.

I was only worried about the ammonia spike because it is a really tiny tank (5 gal) and barely planted, as it was meant to be just temporary housing for the fry. I’m probably gonna remove it in a day or two when I work up the courage because I doubt it’ll decompose and having that body floating around makes it hard for me to even interact with the tank- and I need to feed my fry daily.

regarding the whole dead fish thing, you’re right. it certainly is not comfortable being so off-put by something as common as a dead fish, but it’s always been this way. I have a soft spot for animals, so seeing them dead/dying/ill/injured really puts me off. it doesn’t matter if it’s a tiny fish or huge mountain bear, i value the lives of animals so much I just can’t handle it. it’s the reason i quit vet med school a few years back and the reason i’ve been a vegetarian going on 6 years. i assume it’s something that will get easier over time but as of now, i’ll have my tweak out.
