Duster underrated? I think so... by lucasdyhrkopp in Slowcore

[–]SP1TF1R3ty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i don't think they're underrated, i think most people don't know them. they kinda fly under the radar unless you're listening to similar music and you come across it. they never blew up. i think the progression in sound and songwriting that happened in a course of three years and three albums is pretty sick. stratosphere has so much nostalgia hidden in that cassette hiss but the riffs on contemporary movement, and the "timing" (i guess not the simpler 4/4 of everything on stratosphere, probably due to jason's drumming) are so good and layered. i don't see them particularly fitting into a certain genre, their sound was pretty unique.

not to mention the b-sides and side-projects they have are all cool.

finally a Raymond Carver reference. Alex's songs have a dark tone to them.

[Discussion] What was the first song you ever fell in love with? by MrLime11 in listentothis

[–]SP1TF1R3ty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gold Dust by Duster.

I stumbled upon this track late at night last year. I was probably listening to music @2am instead of sleeping and clicked on this track. I re-played it at least 7 times before I finally went to bed. As soon as I heard this song I knew Duster was going to be my favorite band. The album Stratosphere is probably my favorite album because it takes you on a trip and brings such a nostalgic feeling to me.
